It seems like just a thing to stop him from hitching or opening up too early.

But if you look at where his bat is when the ball is released, its pretty normal.

A host of one of the radio stations last night reported on how Rizzo paraphenalia is flying off the shelves at Wrigley...but no, fans aren't going overboard. Meanwhile the Sox have two legitimate ROY candidates.

I'm sorry your team isn't as popular. I wish the Cubs were less popular than they are, truly.

Did you forget the Beckham hysteria? Same shit happened. I was at his first game. The entire stadium (packed) gave him a silly-long standing ovation.

Because it's more popular (and lazy) to rag on the Cubs and their fans. WSOX (especially B&B) are kings of that crap.

Um....Me too. We were in the Score suite with Crosscheck, Mac, Doug, Eaglo, STU-GOTZ...

They lost like 8-0 to the A's, the stadium was not at all packed as it was a Thursday afternoon game, and while he got an ovation, I don't believe it was a long silly, standing O type.

It was long. I laughed at how long it was.

You are mis-remembering. There certainly was hype with Beckham, but that was after he had been here and performed for a while. Rizzo has played 2 games and the Tribune was comparing him to Babe Ruth on yesterday's cover

He was hyped before his first game. And he was hyped at his first game. It's silly that Sox fans think being excited about a prospect is "a Cubs thing." It's a sports thing. In every sport, every city, everywhere. It's not even funny when Sox fans try to pin it on Cubs fans. It's lazy trolling. Think of how annoyed you get when BigFan trolls. Yea, it's that bad.

And the Tribune can do whatever they want. The last thing the media is, is a good representation of what real people think.

So, the "same shit happened" with Beckham, and you laughed at how long it was because it was an overreaction.

Is it still your stance that the reaction to Rizzo is not an overreaction?

Yes. I think all sports fans everywhere overreact. I'm even guilty.

Beckham was not compared to Babe Ruth. Rizzo was.

Wasn't the Babe Ruth comment a joke mocking Chicago fans for always overreacting to everything? And again, that's the media. I can get behind mocking the media.

the only thing i wonder is why san diego would let rizzo, the crown jewel of their adrian gonzalez package, go for a veritable song within a year of trading for him in the first place. what could they have seen that said "ok this kid is bollocks let's go get that cubs farmhand we always needed" maybe they got "the call" from MLB like "the cubs need an anchor to sell $25-30 jerseyshirts outside of wrigley field and you're trading mike rizzo to them" -- that'd make the most sense to me =D

They got 2 decent prospects. And Rizzo failed last year.

I am very confident that Rizzo will have a better career than Gordo.

right. i know that rizzo failed, but as you say.... they got two "decent' prospects and traded a guy who is already putting a lot of shirts out there for sale. there's expectations for this kid to be the crown jewel of the adrian gonzalez trade, and to me, it's weird that a team so starved for offense like san diego would give up on him WITHIN A YEAR. maybe they've got a lot of faith in kyle blanks? who knows?

It was tongue-in-cheek. They even admitted it on their site. Just another gimmick in a poor attempt to generate discussion and sell more newspapers.

Also agree with Dan and 312. I really hoped this giant popularity contest died when the Sox won in 2005. It's unfortunate that it hasn't.

They traded with the Reds for Yonder Alonso who was a more highly touted 1B prospect. There was no room for Rizzo after that trade.
