I don't believe they will spend along the lines of the Dodgers, Yankees and Red Sox. They will continue to build and then maintain their minor league teams and that will provide the bulk of the talent. They will use free agency only to fill in the gaps. To add guys that can put them over the top. Not to use as a main source of talent. Think Tampa Bay Rays, with a little bit more willingness to spend on a free agent when needed.
So then there won't be plenty of money for free agents, which is what you said.

You love to put words in other peoples mouths, yet hate it when others do the same to you.....interesting. No, there WILL be plenty of money to add free agents. NOT to build a team entirely through free agency-which is stupid. But plenty to add pieces that are needed when the time comes.

You compared them to the Rays with a little bit more willingness to spend on free agents!

Exactly. I see them developing the bulk of the team in house as the Rays do and then having the money to add a key free agent when needed that puts them over the top. That last part of the equation is something missing from the Rays M.O.

I havent read this back and forth...and I WONT, but the Rays + modest free agent spending sounds like a good plan

Why won't Ricketts save this team? Does he hate Cubs fans?

Cmon, Joe. He's a millionaire. He's GOTTA be brilliant.

That lucky sperm club thing is just a myth perpetuated by the homeless controlled media

No-he hates Sox fans. Thats why he's building an organization that will be built for long term success. Thats why he's reconstructing Wrigley Field( The Shrine), to keep Baseball's most beautiful ballpark a destination for baseball fans....just to ensure that Sox fans will suffer, knowing that they cheer for a 2nd rate team in a 2nd rate ballpark, rather than a perennial contender who plays in a wonderous cathedral.

Eh.....I dunno. I could understand him being that deranged.

I'm sure "Clark the Cub" will continue to bring the fans in by the busload!!

Sure I do. Not in 2014, but within say the next 6 years.

6 years? Fuck man. No offense intended but no one should take 8-9 years to rebuild and compete.

I think they should contend in 2016, but I'm not going to depend on them winning the World Series in the first year I think they will be contenders. So I give it 6 years, rather than 3. That allows them to win somewhere in a 4 year period in which I envision them winning division titles and participating in post-season runs.

SIX YEARS? That is pretty sad if it is acceptable for you.

2020?

Unless Theo's pitch was that I think there are some 12-year-olds that can turn this thing around, Tommy, we just need patience - that is a failure of the Theo plan.

I think the whole point of everything we are starting to learn is that the finances aren't there for Theo to spend. I doubt that was part of his plan.

Working on something VERY big on the Cubs front- considering the gravity of it, won't post until I have double confirmation...

Theo had 60 mil to burn. He should have chased down about 3 or 4 professional hitters for a year or two contract.
