As a lifelong Cubs fan, one anticipates that they will choke.

That's just how it is.

But they should break through within the next 5 years, maybe this year. They now have an organizational structure and the young talent plus a committed ownership so it's just a matter of time.

you know i just got to thinking that even tho it'd be some kind of (poetic?) "justice" for the cubs to get the [easier matchup in the] mets and avenge 2015 + 1969.... i think getting the giants right out of the chute in the super-dangerous 5-game-DS = totally 100% PITCH PERFECT for this'ere cubs team.

idk if we say the giants are some kind of even #'d year dynasty or anything, but winning 3/6 titles in the 2010s = you look at the DUH!-caliber pattern and see they're due this year. even tho you look at their perennially-shit offense and chuckle as this team is legitimately missing eduardo nunez and all that, when it comes to TCB/TWTW/etc they're the championship standard of the 2010s, and they have a bonafide motherfucker of an absolute legend atop their rotation in bumgarner. beyond that.... yeah, they're a team that's more than the sum of their parts and that (and 2014 madison bumgarner) is why they have 3 championships in the 2010s....

BUT

VERY. SMART. PEOPLE. have led me to believe that this here "Cubs Thing" was 100% "Done the Right Way(TM)" and "this team is going to be very good for a very long time" so if it's time to kick off the first great and bountiful chicago cubs empire, what better way is there to do it than to encounter the best team of this decade right out of the gates? if you wanna make this decade ultimately be about the chicago cubs > san francisco giants well here's your chance cubbies.... in the immortal words of larry the cable guy GIT-R-DONE.

in parting, i wanna say that my magic # for the cubs this postseason is 4. indeed, if the cubs' offense scores 4/+ runs more often than not and their starters give up less than 4 runs more often than not (read: quality starts) then the cubs will be some kind of a force to be reckoned with and the #1 favorite to win the WS cuz they're the best team in baseball. so if the cubs wanna walk the walk and back up the (totally warranted) hype from arguably the greatest regular season in modern cubs history: have your pitchers go out there and make quality starts while your offense scores 4 or more runs more often than it doesn't. if you do those 2 things i can almost 100% guarantee you win the world series.

It seems different because its not a one man show. Rizzo hasn't done shit and Jake hasn't even pitched yet. Everyone is contributing. Last year it felt like Jake had to carry this team and they lived and died by the HR. Remember that Schwarber guy?...me neither.
