This Chapman thing has gotten ridiculous. I've probably listened to 4 or 5 interviews with Ricketts/Theo/Jed, and I'm not sure that even 10% was spent discussing baseball. All that is being talked about is his domestic incident. Words like "moral dilemma" and "bad fit" are being thrown around liberally.

Is it just me, or is this a new phenomenon? At what point did a guy have to have a 100% clean background to play sports? What Chapman did was "wrong", I guess... but we really have no idea what happened, he had no criminal charges levied, and he served a 30-game suspension. Who cares at this point? Not only do I not think it affects baseball; I don't think there is any moral conflict... the guy made a mistake and he served his "time" for it. Can we start talking about his 105 MPH heater?

Total agreement. I would assume the police would error on the side of the woman on that call. Police said no signs of abuse to her. From what I could see in the photos nothing happened(except a nice boobjob). Conflicting stories from everyone at the party. He admitted to losing it and shot up his garage with his legally registered gun.


Chapman is a pretty large dude, if he laid hands on her, its going to show up in a photo 2 hours later.

Here it comes. In a Cubs uniform for one day and all of a sudden he isn't a bad guy.

The guy was suspended this year by mlb and he personally apologized for some of his actions. It's ok to think he isn't a good guy.

But no, I've never had a domestic violence incident and then got a gun and fired it 8 times into a wall while my significant other was hiding in the bushes calling police as I was doing it. If I did though I wouldn't be shocked if people thought I was a bad guy though.

I also cheered on Brandon Marshall when he wrapped his hands around a football. Bad guys get paid lots of money to play sports.

I also never said anything about not cheering for them.

Read my OP. The reason I created the thread was because of interviews about Chapman that talk about nothing but his past and the morality of signing him. You'll have to excuse me for not following the Yankees on a daily basis.

They talked to her, interviewed her and said there was nothing to hold him on. What do you want from him. I haven't heard a story that said he threatened to kill her before or after shooting the gun. I don't post much, but where have I destroyed anyone for someone elses mistakes. This didn't happen in Cuba, a real cop was on sight seeing what happened and he wasn't charged.

Are you saying that someone who may have psychologically abused someone does not deserve to earn a living?

Chapman served his suspension and that should be that. But as I said yesterday and Rick said earlier in this thread, Theo and Jed can no longer talk about the great character guys they have on their team and in their organization. They have Chapman as closer and a known juicer as a hitting coach.

That's fine. It was always lip service anyway. If Theo could deliver a Cubs World Series with a roster full of criminals, he'd do it in a heartbeat. I do believe there's merit to his theory that it is an asset to a player (and therefore team) to have guys who are talented AND "little angels", but let's be real... that's not always possible.
