There's some doofus who laughs out loud at the slightest provocation in the radio booth. You hear it crystal clear and he's the only one doing it.

Dude. That is the one and only Zach Zaidman. I strongly recommend you not listen to the pre game. beni listens. Trust me. You don't want to.

And I'm hoping Hughes sticks around long enough for Zach to get a PBP job somewhere else.

If ZZ is covering for Pat on any given day, and the WSOX are playing, 100% of the time I choose to listen to Farmer and DJ. Farmer have MANY warts in their broadcast. They are much more palatable.

Beni get it.
The day ZZ leaves Chicago Media cannot come soon enough.

Coomer mildly force fake laughing at Pat Hughes cornball jokes is bad. ZZ doesn't want to get groted, so he yuks it up like Hughes is Don Rickles in his prime.

His laugh is so over the top, it makes mildly funny more funny.

This crowd tends to hate everybody...and that's how we end up with McDoink.

ZZ should aspire to be present day Don Rickles.

Sort of...

I'll give you this being a rough crowd. ZZ does decent work with his basketball play by play. I found him amusing when whispering about the Bears. Shit, beni listened for years so MANY here didn't have to (before your time) and it wasn't all bad.

Baseball is different. If you have to listen more than you watch, and take in any extended period of his baseball work, it is very difficult to continue listening. His baseball cadence is off to just not good. In small doses...ok...funny. It's tough to take the longer you listen.

What is most maddening about the situation is Grote was/is so much better at what fans hear (from a person holding this job) it is hard to understand why ZZ replaced him. I don't agree with the Beardown theories. Either the Bears wanted a change, or WSCR wanted a change. One of them felt Grote would be an improvement to the Bears broadcast. That is why Grote was moved. WCUB nation lost in the deal.

Nothing WSCR related is before my time.

I totally agree that ZZ's baseball announcing was cringeworthy when he started and has only improved slightly since. It really seemed like he'd never done it before and I figured he probably never played and couldn't give two shits about baseball. He's always been a football and hoops guy. I do think he's working hard to improve but never expected to be doing baseball.

I prefer ZZ's baseball PBP to his college basketball PBP. He tries waaay to hard to make EVERY. SINGLE. POSSESSION. in a DePaul game sound like the most exticing thing on earth.

His over-the-top laughter in the Cubs' booth at things that are merely chuckleworthy is bizarre.

The radio guys are crammed in that booth doing 150 games together every summer. It's a grind. They laugh, or over-laugh, at stuff the other guys say or do? Life's better when you're laughing, its fun and healthy to do. Try it some time.

The Hughes, Coomer, ZZ broadcast team is a fun and easy listen.

I was referencing a time when beni streamlined comments made by ZZ, which was before your time. Unless of course you are Dallas Winston or Dave in Champaigne. Then welcome back sir. Way back when I had time (for Lunch) beni would be put into service.
