No, the Sox just wanted Eloy over Happ( everybody did) the Cubs would have gladly swapped Eloy with Happ in that trade. That would be a much fairer trade.

Happ hit .240 in AAA and struck out almost a third of the time . Solid call up.

.324/.451/.608 since July 1.

9 walks in his last 10 games. Only 6 strikeouts.

If you ask a player to make very specific adjustments looking for very specific results, and you get both...you have to reward that player. And, hey, a bonus! He fills in a position of need for the club.

Ehh...I don't know. If Caratini is remaining on the roster, I'd like to fit Contreras into extra corner OF starts.

Bote hasn't played well enough to be a consistent starter.

And where do you have Robel Garcia? Sounds like you don't have him anywhere.

Innings 1-6 or 1-7 should be the following, and then you go with some defensive subs and move guys around in the last innings if you have a lead...

/me gets inb4 .223/4/7 in appx 45-85 at bats as the cubs will prolly do something stupid/ish like trading for someone like Danny Santana of the Rangers (a 28 year old dude who has come out of nowhere to be like ~.315/14/39/13 in appx 250 at bats this season, aka a relatively cheap roll of the dice for a guy who's in the midst of a career year and under team control thru 2021 IIRC)

Look...I've never been a Happ guy. Just saying he showed what they wanted him to show. He gets a chance to show it for the Cubs now. He isn't playing while anyone worthwhile is missing PA's.

The fact that he fouls off and completely misses pitches IN THE STRIKE ZONE as often as he does, is the real tell tale sign that he will probably never be a vey good hitter. if he lacked plate discipline, perhaps he could be taught to lay off the pitches out of the zone. But he does lay off bad pitches for he most part, thus giving him better pitches to hit. He just can't hit them.

I like Happ, and root for him.

But the reality is, he somehow hit his way onto the team a couple years ago and and won some equity with that, but he cant sustain it.

They think he can get back to that but the reality is he's not a real good hitter overall.
