May as well, shouldn't have been back this year as a lame duck.

Who is his replacement? If it's Ross I say yeah. The team wouldn't lay down on him.

Shouldn't Epstein be fired immediately for dumping a manager who is worth his weight in gold?

Absolutely, I say.

It's laughable watching the Sox fans troll Cub threads and jealously downplay his value.

You can fire a 25 man roster, somebody's head has to roll. I want Jason Mcloud and Jeff Greenberg gone immediately.

I remember when he was hired and Cubs fans were in a frenzy of joy and I said you would hate him just like you hate Baker and Baylor soon enough. He won a World Series three years ago but suddenly he can't manage. Like I've said all along, managers don't matter. I'm gonna guess there's a robot manager before there's a robot plate umpire.

So he slowly deteriorated as a manager? What do you think happened to him? Too much red wine?

they won in spite of his efforts to completely fuck up that world series victory. i have had no use for merlot joe for some time now. but if they get rid of him mid-season they may as well blow the team up.

I've seen you write this before.

Cubs fans were very pleased when he was hired ( he won a lot of games and a ring) he was a big upgrade over RR.

Nothing lasts forever, Even Quenville was dumped for a shake up. This isn't the White Sox where you get a job for life.

Wait a minute. He was a "big upgrade" over Renteria, but now you want to replace him with a guy who has never managed and that's an upgrade over him? You'll have to explain this to me.

I have no idea if Ross will be good or not, he was a CATCHER so I'll go with him being good with the pitching staff. He's also beloved by 90% of that clubhouse..if it doesn't work out then hire somebody else.

So you admit that the Cubs are going to have a big downgrade at manager.

No.. he may be a huge upgrade, Ross is an unknown. I've always liked catchers that manage though. Maddon is good for keeping guys loose and relaxed, no good on accountability and X's and O's.

Okay, so there's no objective measurement. Just whomever manages the Cubs is an automatic upgrade over the previous guy. Thanks for clarifying.

Maddon has a specific skill set. It worked to get the young team to and through the playoffs, even though he is a shitty in-game manager.

That skill set isn't really useful right now. The approach has a shelf life. He's reaching it with these guys. He should go rebuild the Mets.

Ryne Sandberg was by all accounts a very good minor league manager and a shitty major league manager, because his skills worked best with 19 year olds.

Ross isn't better or worse necessarily than Maddon. He is expected to have a different skill set that is more appropriate for this part of the team's lifecycle.

I soured on managers in general after Tony LaRussa.

As awful as you might think Maddon was in the WS nobody was as bad as Washington and LaRussa in that 2011 series.
