I think he's good enough to get LaStella traded to an AL team over the winter. Which is a little shame because the front office obviously loves TLS and he seems to be comfortable in his role.

He is a much better fielder, especially at 3rd.

I would be fine with LaStella leaving in the offseason

I would like LaStella and Bote to stick around next year. When they trade the impregnator away and move Baez to SS full time then Bote slides to 2b and LaStella keeps his pinch hitting gig.

I'm pretty sure at least 1 piece of the "core" is being traded this offseason

Package Schwarber and Russell to an AL team for a bag of balls and cash. Throw in Happ and maybe get a low level pitching prospect.

Sounds like a Hahn trade.

Ya think Theosus can get Shields?

Joe Orr calls Palka an elite hitter in the Sox section and gets ripped for six pages. Bote gets his call in the Cub section to universal approval

Might have something to do with Palka not even coming close to Bote's performance so far.

For future reference, dolphin believes that a 211 point difference in OPS is negligible.

Let's also discuss the added value of + defense Bote brings to both 2B and 3B whereas Palka can't be hidden in a corner outfield spot and as a DH he is below average in both OPS and WAR.

Daniel Palka is the White Sox version of Bryan LaHair. Your team is stuck in a bad rebuilding year and you get overly excited about a player that wasn't planned to be involved in your rebuild simply to convince yourself the rebuild is accelerating.

Plus MUCH different wording. JORR said Palka was going to be an ELITE perennial all star.

Bote has just been praised for being talented and making a big impact on this years team in the last few weeks.

The thinnest branch stepped out on in this thread is Bote being able to jettison Tommy LaStella going into next year. I don't think anyone would be shocked if Bote was figured out and his numbers come down to earth. He's a unheralded rookie that immediately contribured when give a chance.

Possibly.

But Bote can also contribute as a utility infielder whereas in an ideal world, LaStella is simply a bat. Furthermore, Bote 'clicked' back in 2016 and has performed well ever since. He just was drafted so late and started his career so slowly that he had to prove himself longer than most before he got a chance. Then he impressed in big league camp in the spring, and now in the majors. I doubt he is a near 1.000 OPS player. But he is clearly a major leaguer and clearly an asset on a winning team.

We can all name countless 'unheralded rookies' that ended up having very good careers. The MLB draft and scouting young baseball players is the most inexact science there is. See: Keyser Soze.

Never thought I would see a Fast Eddie quote on here, let alone in the Cubs section.

put his amazing 78 at bat run in the same category as the magical work of Victor Caratini.

Remember when he was going to get the Cubs a starting pitcher at the trade deadline and was a prime bargaining chip?

Still waiting for your Shields valuable trade piece to go down.

I do think it makes it more likely that Happ could be traded in the offseason.

I had a Bote call last night in the 9th when it was 3-0 so I missed the heroics. It was a helluva shock to check my phone later and see a 4-3 score.
