1. More disappointing then the 1969 Cubs. Cuz there were less playoff teams. 5 NL teams get in nowadays. Only 2 made the playoffs in 1969.

2. More disappointing then the 1986 Bears. Cuz that team went 14-2. People forget that. McMahon got boddy slammed and we had Doug fucking Flutie starting the playoff game that we lost. Flutie was on his couch mid way through the NFL season that year, by the way. So at least that team had a great regular season.

1994 White Sox - They had a legitimate shot at going to the World Series and their season was wiped away by the strike.

How can you be disappointed in a team that pretty much looked like shit the whole year?

Because they had way more talent then the Brewers and Cardinals.

Yeah. I'm talking about a team collapse. Sox had no control of the season being cancelled. Obviously.

And the more talented teams don't always win. Underachievers the whole year.

Cubs had 2nd best home record in the league and 3rd worst road record. 6-3 vs the Brewers in Wrigley vs 3-7 @Miller Park, which used to be Wrigley North for the Cubs. That's gotta be on Maddon.

OK. And the more talented team played like shit this year. It's not like they blew a 10-15 game lead. And barring some miraculous off-season moves and a big change in performance by those who are left, it's not looking real good for next year either.

Let's dial this back a bit Beardown.

The '69 team had 4 legit Hall of Fame players as well as Santo as an afterthought HoF'er. That collapse was by far the most disappointing.

You can't tell me the '86 Bears season doesn't rank up there with greatest disappointments. How does a team with all of that talent lose in the playoffs to the Redskins?

The '03 and '04 Cubs seasons? Pretty fucking brutal disappointments.

Now, this year's Cubs team? I can't even rank it in the most disappointing of the past three seasons post-World Series. You had to know that the offense wasn't going to suddenly figure out their inconsistency issues from the past few years. Then the bullpen was a hot mess right from the start of the season. Morrow is some weird enigma at this point. Edwards Jr. was trying a new delivery because of his inconsistencies. You can't say you felt comfortable this team had a closer entering the season. Finally, the starting pitching staff at the beginning of the year was still a big question mark. You knew Lester was getting older. You had no idea what you would get out of Darvish. Hamels is not a kid anymore. Quintana didn't show the #1 starter type stuff last year that was expected. Given all of this? I feel they underachieved, but this was nowhere as close to many other disappointments.

Well said Hoffy. This season while frustrating does not even register with the real disappointments over the years.

But this team didn't even make the playoffs. That's bad with their talent and 2 wild card spots. That's my point. No playoffs?

Hell, the Cubs might have 5 or 6 hall of famers on this team. Maybe. Still early to tell.

I win this one. If you don't agree with me, you're wrong.

Easily the 86 Bears. There hadn't been a team that dominant since the Steel Curtain.

That flop was squarely on the idiot Ditka. The next year it was on the McCaskey family.

And Joe Gibbs is still laughing all the way to the bank.

The 04 Cubsa is a good one. I'll put them at 4th place. I'll put the 06 Sox at 5th place.

I. Hated. That. Redskins. Team. So. Fucking. Much.

I was only 8 when the Bears won the Super Bowl and had no idea what football was yet, so I fell in love with the Bears. Watched that whole 1986 season and when the Redskins won, it was that first real time in my life I felt the real pain of being a fan.

Lester- Maybe

Rizzo - Maybe

Baez - Maybe

Darvish - Maybe

The Boston closer guy that they got - Yes.

Contreres - Maybe

Hendricks - Maybe

Like I said, a lot of these guys have a long way to go cuz they are young. But we'll see.

I agree. This year and last year were annoying and had a sense of inevitability to them. Not really disappointing per se.

2003 was unexpected success, key trades, and they became a World Series participant....but not before Alex Gonzalez, Dusty and crew could choke it all away. THAT was disappointing!!

Hell, I’ve wanted them to lose this last 10-15 days because they don’t deserve to be in the playoffs.

Beardown is a lot of fingers into the scotch.

If you go by Baseball Reference, here's their most similar player through their age

Lester- Ron Guidry (not a HoF)

Rizzo - Travis Hafner (not a HoF)

Baez - Junior Spivey (not a HoF)

Darvish - Josh Johnson (not a HoF)

The Boston closer guy that they got - Kenley Jansen (this is the only "could be")

Contreres - Aledmys Díaz (not a HoF)

Hendricks - Alex Wood (not a HoF)

Right. A LONG way to go...

But this team has been essentially mediocre for the the last 250 games or so. Hard to be truly disappointed in your team missing the playoffs when it’s clear they don’t deserve to win the division and are clearly inferior to the other wild card teams.

03 was devastating. 07 and 08...best team in the NL then get swept out of the playoffs. DLee , ARam , and Soriano go 0 for 180 at the plate with 170 strikeouts. That’s disappointing

This team just sucked. Most errors in the league, most outs on the base paths, etc, etc.. BASURA
