Does Maddon make excuses or does he acknowledge that he managed that game terribly and the Cubs bailed him out? Maddon is lucky they won that game or he would have become the new Bartman.

The Cubs won that game in spite of Maddon. He was awful in his use of the staff. There was no reason to pull Hendricks. It started the night before putting Chapman in game 6 for no reason.

Just as an aside after recently watching game 7 and not to excuse Maddons handling of Hendricks , Chapman was still throwing 98 plus pitching to Davis and everyone else afterwards . Doesn’t seem to lend credence to him being gassed .

I think he had thrown 20 straight fastballs, so that 98 was not as difficult for the Indians to barrel up. For some reason he couldn't throw the slider any more. It was like he had become Justin Grimm.

Joe should have brought Chapman in for the 5th, but he panicked and got Lester up in the third. His plan all along should have been to bring in Lester to start the 7th no matter what. If he had to use Chapman earlier, Lester has to go 3 innings if they are winning. If not, he could decide what to do for the 9th as needed. Montgomery was always going to come in for extra innings as he was the only guy left who could give them 80 pitches.

Maddon lost me after the rizzo HR in game 6. Thats when he should have planned to rest Chapman.
In fact, he shouldn't have even pitched in that game.
