I was 3. Were the Cubs overachievers this year? I'm looking at the roster and it seems like a lot of crusty old veterans. what do you remember about this year?

Great year. The Cubs are the Cubdomof today bec of 1984.

Lot of great talent from the Phillies championship teams came over. Dallas Green has a lot to do with that. Changes the culture to one that expected winning.

Mix that with some career years and the Sutclife trade and they were a fun team to watch.

Sadly should’ve won the pennant. Were better than the Padres

Great team to watch. So many guys had good years.

My 1st and biggest soul crushing Cubs team. I always told myself that the Tigers would have smoked them anyway. Sutcliffe was out of gas in game 5.

Too bad Dallas Green was canned.

Leon Durham just hit a 2 run bomb in the first inning. No looking back!

Wow, Padres pitcher gives up a hit to Sutcliffe and is yanked in the 2nd inning. Cubs won't score another run. Geez

Umpires were on strike and finally came to an agreement during this game in time for the world series.

3-2 Cubs after 6. It could have been worse but Gary Matthews made a great catch. 7th inning Rick implodes!

What the hell was Jim Frey thinking? Rick Sutcliffe is clearly out of juice. Walks the first guy in the 7th.

Steve Trout is pitching now and looks like he's having a panic attack on the mound.

Goose plows down the Cubs and it's over. 5 years until they make another postseason appearance. As far as Frey goes:

After a trying 1985 season in which the entire five-man starting rotation simultaneously spent time on the disabled list, the Cubs sputtered in 1986. Frey was fired two months into the season and replaced by John Vukovich. The next year, Frey surfaced as a color commentator on the Cubs' WGN Radio broadcasts.

I was just a kid but I remember how disappointed my mom and my Dad’d mom were. I still enjoy watching games from that era even if the offensive stats look odd. I Do think it was a more inneresting game back then.

Whistler vibe. Very similar to posts about old Bulls playoff games.
