Pham is damaged goods. I'd rather pay more, get Myers, and not give them a catcher. With they money the Padres save they can sign Molina.

I saw Cronenworth play at AAA several times. Good bat, good arm, not great defense. Not as good as his rookie numbers, expect a sophomore slump as the league figures him out. But he has the potential to play 5 positions, and lets the Cubs send Hoerner back to AAA for half a season.

MLB Trade Rumors has Campusano possibly in there. In that case, sending Caratini along to be Darvish's personal catcher makes sense.

Getting under the luxury tax threshold, setting themselves up for the 2022 lockout and its aftermath, and probably still competing for an NL Central title since none of the other four teams are doing anything useful to compete.

Oh, and saving money because Crane sold them a box of shit with Marquee and now their financial projections are all fucked up.

They are in pile up asset mode, not roster construction. Redundancy in the farm system is what led to the 16 WS.

Just gather the best assets available and figure the rest out later.
