Eloy Jimenez (41 Games in majors): .230/.278/.421 for an 86 OPS+... awful fielding metrics, - .7 WAR

Dylan Cease (11 starts in pitcher-friendly International League): 4.10 ERA, 1.443 WHIP, 3.8 BB9,

-------------

Jose Quintana (58 starts in the superior National League): 3.90 ERA (110 ERA+), 1.254 WHIP, 2.9 BB9

Please note: 1 post = 1 vote for Quintana to 2019 ASG.

It's been 23 months and Quintana is only signed through the 2020 season. This trade has been proven to strengthen the Chicago Cubs team in the middle of a championship window. There are question marks within the Cubs starting rotation... Quintana's dependability and acceptable salary are a steadying presence.

I'd definitely offer an extension. It would be up to Quintana to sign it or not. There is room for a guy like Quintana in every single rotation. He won't be your Game 1 starter in a World Series, but he helps you get to one.

Q is a fine 3. Shows up every 5th day. Puts in 200 innings. Gets his ass beat occasionally but always is around for his next turn. Those guys are valuable.

Especially since Theo/Jed know dick about drafting and developing pitching.

The Cubs may be happy with the trade but I can't come up with a scenario where the White Sox lost the trade of a guy they weren't doing anything worthwhile with anyways.

You don't trade your 2 top prospects for a #3.

End of story.

That's where I'm @ with this, and he's a 4 not a 3. If the playoffs started tomorrow you'd have Hendricks, Lester, Hammels then Q.

The Cubs get a cost-controlled left-handed number 3. The south-side inbreeds get George Soler II and a pitching prospect. It’s close but the Cubs have come out ahead.

Spoiler alert: they were only top prospects because the actual top prospects graduated and won you a World Series. Brett Jackson was once a top Cubs prospect. Jay Jackson. Bobby Hill. Josh Vitters. Felix Pie. Brian Dopirak.

Sometimes you have to look at the strength of the farm system before you put too many chips in the organization 's top prospect.

Apologies for the typo...it’s south-side in inbreds, not inbreeds. Sorry.

Why can't both teams have gotten a piece they need and value?
Cubs are flush with outfielders. Eloy was expendable, so they trade him to a team that would hold him at a higher value than they did. Quintana was expendable for the Sox, I guess.
Both teams came out with a piece they needed, both parties are better for having made the trade.
I don't get this need for winners and losers.

Spoiler alert: When you call up a "top prospect" who ends up sticking on the big league club, the next highest ranked guys become the "top prospects" You seriously thought that was some kind of deep baseball thought?

Here's another spoiler - when you trade someone from your team, his spot on the roster gets filled by someone else. Not sure if you've heard that one before.

Did you mention you still read Bleed Cubbie Blue? I'm beginning to see why you can't break away from there.

I think you think you hit back, but I'm not seeing it. Where do Eloy and Cease improve the Cubs in their current window? Who starts in place of Quintana and gives you the same or better performance for cheaper? If you put more annual salary in that spot, what other positions suffer?

Where's your issue?
