Seriously.

I know they won't get much for the guys that are up next year. Still, trade them and get what you can get. Some of those kids will hit.

Trade Hendricks and Contras too. Those guys have more then a half season left.

It would be baseball smart. This team sucks as is. Not gonna be better when these guys hit their 30s and you're locked into them when they hit their mid 30s. Why not do the rebuild thing again. Worked for them once. Working for the White Sox now.

And it doesn't mean you can't sign guys other then these guys. Just put money into the younger free agents. Christ, you pissed away money on Heyward.

Just saying, moving on from all these fuckers is the right baseball move.

The implied back end of tanking (while spending no money) was that the Cubs would bank the savings now to sign these guys to second contracts when the time came

It's pretty ridiculous that the Cubs and their fans now turn their noses up at a core that won them a world series, openly expresses love for the organization and are good enough to continue to get them to the playoffs for the next few years.

9 games out and trending down. Maybe they "were" good enough, if they hadn't traded Darvish.

Hard to trade guys when they leave a game like this

What's the hold up, why haven't they moved 4 or 5 of these guys already.

At this point I'm starting to think Bryant/Baez/Rizzo won't be traded because the return will be insulting. Kimbrel will absolutely be gone, and possibly Contreras due to the extra year of control and his friction with Ross.

I hope you are right, I get the feeling Rizzo has zero value and no takers. KB out again with yet another minor injury brings very little back, he's just not reliable means very few suitors. . Baez k's way too much and brings little back.

Buster Onley said the Red Sox might want Rizzo. But yeah, you're not gonna get much for Rizzo.

I heard Spiegel say that Rizzo turned down a 5 year 70 million dollar extension at the begging of the season.

Mistake. He won't get that as a free agent. Certainly not that many years. Nor the average money per year.

The Cubs were lucky that he turned it down. Same with Baez. They offered him bigger money and he turned it down. Bryant isn't gonna get what he thought he was gonna get either.

I think the Cubs should move on from all 3 of them. Spend money. Just not on those guys. Buy some other better guys.

So much confusion. Let me keep it simple for u:

NOBODY is getting traded. This is nothing but a mass media push and Hoyer is laughing at all of you.

As Theo always did, he is just making a few low-grade moves of guys who have no long-term ties to the club.

Stop it and enjoy ur WS heroes.

You're stupid.

I don't know why you wouldn't trade all of the pending free agents. No down side to it. Get whatever you can. Even if it's not much. So what? You're not winning this year. And you can resign them in the offseason if you want to do so. It's a no brainer.

I'd also consider trading the couple of guys that are locked up for one more year. For the right price.

Cubs look like they are making the bold move of trading for another Sox starter. Don't they ever get tired of getting pantsed by their south side superiors?

Jed isnt getting what he wants or else these trades would have been done by now. He's holding out for the deadline hoping he gets one more kid from these teams. Hoping for that bidding war as we close in on Friday.

He'll get it. But it's still gonna be a hope and a prayer on teenagers.

Still, you do it anyway.

Duh.

He wont trade anybody unless it's an offer he cant refuse. He's not gonna trade em for peanuts.

He is NOT looking to trade anybody (at least the stars). Other teams are inquiring to HIM. As they do every year. This is nothing different. The only difference this time is the media is trying to turn this into a story of how they are being shopped and there's a teardown underway. There is no teardown and they AREN't bein' shopped. It's the same story. Theo/Jed are loyal to these players. Plus, at this rate, they can still win 80 games, which will bring asses to the ballpark. Nobody wants to watch a team full of AAA players. The games this year, unlike most years, are NOT sold out and have a ton of seats available.

Teardowns dont happen until after a year or 2 of failure and slow transition. Right now we are beginning of transition if anything. See 2009. We were floundering in 2010 & 2011 before Theo came in and officially started a teardown.

He is fine trading outsiders like Davies or Tepera (see Chagin or however u spell it), as those guys will bring in next year's middle relievers. I dont think he even wants to trade Kimbrel. He just won't bring back enough of a return and will still help save a buncha games this year.

We looked terrible this week but it hasnt helped that Baez was out of the lineup.

Heyward has hamstrung this team since he's been here.

Prior to signing with the Cubs, he averaged 5.12 WAR over six seasons, with a low of 2.4:

6.3
2.4
5.5
3.6
6.4
6.5

Since signing with the Cubs, he has averaged 1.52 WAR over almost six seasons, with a HIGH of 2.3:

1.6
2.3
1.6
2.0
1.3
0.3

I've said from the beginning that Epstein grossly overpaid, but at least the track record was there. Shame on Heyward for falling apart, and shame on Ricketts for refusing to eat the money when it's been obvious for years that's he not going to get better.

You (actually all of us) should have pitchforks out for these motherfucking Ricketsses. They destroyed a great neighborhood and were dicks the entire way. They banked money and asked fans to be understanding, expressly stating that the money would be used to keep these guys around. They are still in their prime, perfectly capable of winning divisions and these owner now can't find the money. We think they are good people because they are dim witted, intersectional nebraskans. The reality is that they learned everything from their palpatine father and he hides in the shadows of all the big decisions for this team.

Thankfully KB and Baez got greedy and bad advice from their agents, you wouldn't want these guys locked up long term. Making the playoffs means dick if you aren't a legitWS contender. I'm hoping Baez and KB go today and send Hendricks to San Diego to offset the Sherzer to L.A. move. Rebuild this team and be back in the post season and ready to contend for a WS in 2 years.

Many focus on Heyward's disastrous contract (which Ricketts has been too cheap to eat), but I've been thinking of one that no one talks about: signing Jon Lester instead of Max Scherzer. Lester was above average, but did not earn his $25m per year. He finished in the top 5 in Cy Young voting just once. On the other hand, Max has been a stud every year -- winning 2 Cy Youngs, finishing in the top 5 in 6 out of 7 years (assuming he will do so again this year, with last year's covid year the only time he did not). He has really been remarkable. It's hard to say the Cubs were cheap in signing Lester, but imagine how these last several years would have been with Scherzer instead.

Who are you crappin’ troller? If the Cubs gave out the length and dollars required to lock these guys up, you would be here laughing at the dumb money. And the Cubs would pay these guys if Bryant could play like MVP Bryant and Baez was playing like runner up MVP Baez.

Further, the Cubs were in luxury tax territory, so they did spend plenty of payroll dollars. They also made ongoing improvements to Wrigley out of their own pocket. The network idea has been a flop though.

The luxury tax is like the 4 minute mile, some mental barrier that doesn't actually have a physical manifestation. They got fat for years with the understanding that when it was time to spend, money would be no object.

and you want to give a property owner credit for not letting his building crumble.

Cub fans have always been an easy lay
