He got the money they originally offered Rizzo.

If he can handle CF defensively for this year except for a few cavernous road ballparks, and adjust to MLB pitching enough to hit .260/.330/.420 in year 1, I'm fine with it. He is likely to be traded after year 3 unless the Cubs CF/RF prospects (Davis, Crow-Armstrong, Alcantara) all flame out in the spirit of Joe Borchard.

Suzuki is younger and better than Fukudome...it seems he bulked up quite a bit in recent years. Let's see if he can hit a MLB fastball.

So are the Cubs cheap or spending dumb money? Because it seems that each time one of our teams missies out on a free agent, they are cheap, and every time they spend significant dollars the contract is dumb money.

Any time the Cubs are accused of being cheap, Tom Ricketts can roll out Jason Heyward in a press conference and have him confirm the Cubs will spare no expense to fielding a championship roster

Seems like his natural position is RF as he has a great arm and is likely not fast enough for center. Look for Heyward to move to CF.

His home run call can be 'See ya' - play on his first name. Or is that considered racist nowadays?

Heyward moves to the bench as a 4th OF

P & S had a comical guest on from Fangraphs talking about Seiya Suzuki. He thought he might have problems on defense reacting to MLB's higher exit velocity than Japan's league giving him less time to react.
Neither host called him out on the ridiculous statement, but agreed with him on the possible couple mph causing mayhem for him on defense.

Don't really know. He's not a Fukodome type of windmill slappy hitter. He appears to be a converted SS/3B who grew out of the infield.

I don't think he can maintain his NPB numbers, and a lineup where he's batting third is probably a 75 win team. I'd like to see the Cubs sign another bat like Conforto or Castellanos, even at the cost of a draft pick, and have this guy batting either 2 or 5.

Making his debut this afternoon. Picked a good one to take the day off and treat my dad to a baseball game. Can’t wait to spend $12 per beer.

Maybe he'll hit three homers on opening day, like HOFer Karl "Tuffy" Rhodes.

Tuffy Rhodes and Seby Zavala are fascinating outliers. Rhodes hit three homers on opening day, all against Doc Gooden, yet only had 13 in a six-year career. Zavala hit three homers in one game (the first player ever to hit his first three HR all in the same game), but only has five for his career.

His signing was so underrated. It's early, and who knows if pitchers will find a weakness to exploit and it changes. But such great plate discipline. Hits for average and power. Good running the bases. So far, so great.

What surprised me about him is that he's 6'5". And that he's gotten on base somehow for almost every game this year.
