I already feel a sense of relief that we are not hearing hourly / daily updates on Mark Prior...and all the BS that followed him.

I hate the fact that his Cubs career went so far south so quickly...but it is refreshing to just concentrate on good young arms in camp. Hopefully that translates to good pitching throughout the season.

FYI - I read where Hart is wearing number 22.

Good. Now all I've got to do is rip the "PRIOR" off my jersey then.

I'm guessing there is some tricky saying or "word-smything" that could be done to equate the fact that Prior has no Hart.....or there is no Hart in Prior...or number 22 finally has a Hart.

That's pretty good.

Don't worry, I'm sure you will get more than enough reports on Kerry Wood and his battle for the closer role.

Dig at Rothschild in his quote? Funny stuff. Hope he does well as wishing ill on someone is just bad karma.

Mark Prior-S-Padres Feb. 16 - 4:12 pm et

Mark Prior, who has been throwing on his own for the past few weeks, had a successful first session for the Padres on Saturday.

He threw 31 pitches -- more than his scheduled allottment -- in eight minutes, and was very pleased with the results. Prior said he "felt pretty comfortable and was able to focus on spots instead of mechanics and arm." For now, he'll throw off the mound every five days and will play long toss from 130 feet on Monday. The team expects him to begin a minor league rehab stint in April and join the Padres in May.

I don't think Prior is going to lsat if he's not focusing on mechanics. He throws incorrectly on.... whatever, fuck him he a damn dirty Padre.

it's just very strange that this guys calling card was his mechanics. I'm sure everyone can recall Bernsy absolutely in love with Priors mechanics and bowling pin calves.

boy oh boy, what a big fall this guy has taken.

I really hope he does well, but maybe it's too late.

But that year in 03, those last 2 months of the season, I have never seen a better Cubs pitcher than Prior in my 30 years on this planet.

So sad that Prior came crumbling down so fast as a cub. Still wish him the best except vs the Cubs.

yeah, that year his line seemed like it was 8 IP 5H 1BB 1 R every time out down the stretch. and it would have been about that again until steve bartman....oh, wait, forget that part.

The best part of that article was when Prior said he was surprised he got to his limit so quick and he flet like he could have gone longer!

IT WAS 31 PITCHES! at 75 MPH!

which is the most important piece of information in whole article. At the end of last year he was topping out at 88. Unless he has changed as a pitcher, that is not going to get it done.

Prior's issues have never been mechanics. He's been juicing, and it's negatively affecting his body. He's just never got caught.

In a stunning development that no one, save this intrepid reporter, saw coming...

Mark Prior-S- Padres Mar. 27 - 12:45 am et

Padres placed RHP Mark Prior on the 60-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, following shoulder surgery.
There goes any chance of the Padres rushing Prior back. Since he was placed on the 60-day DL, he won't be eligible to return from shoulder surgery until late May. He's likely to begin pitching in minor league games at the beginning of May.

Does time on the DL count toward Major League service? This guy is going to be able to retire with a full pension with about 2 total years active service in the majors. I cannot remember anyone ever with more time disabled.

How about Ty Griffin? He was a number 1 pick that never did anything at the major league level.

We should have a Section devoted to this. It would be bigger than a Politics or NASCAR section could dream to be.

This is no surprise. Since the day he signed, they said the earliest he would be back was June. They were looking to get around 20 starts from him.

Will you stop posting as Mao so we can get that section?

Hmm, I am going to be in San Diego for the series at the start of June. Man I hope he's on the big club by then, or the Prior jersey I was going to fashion out of a bunch of hand (throwing) towels will go to waste.

In today's Cubs game AP Game Notes, there was a blurb about Mark Prior feeling discomfort as he pitched BP, and is going to have an MRI and may have to see Dr. James Andrews, and I thought, golly am I glad that's all over for us.

I read a blurb about this yesterday, and then during the game last night Len K. mentioned Prior had a set back.

I'm glad in a way that he is not going to become the stud he was...but it still feels like the Cubs lost out on a potential hall of fame pitcher. That said...Isn't it great that we do not have the daily Prior "this"...Prior "that" update.

Good riddance.

As much as I dont think he will ever come back, it still bums me out a bit that the guy became so injurey prone, because when healthy, he might have been one of the best pitchers I have seen in a cubs uni.

IF only his old man didn't shoot him up with 'roids, he may have been a very good pitcher.
