I'm listening to Pat and Dave with half an ear, but did I just hear Gerut go yard?
Man, leaving the bases loaded in the first could really come back to bite us in the ass. Usually does... :x

Okay. That's a bit better!

I'll say one thing for this team, they are relentless. They are like the team of my dreams, offensively. They take pitches, they draw walks and even occasionally situationally hit.
I wonder how many times they have had the bases loaded this year? It's gonna be a good summer. There is nothing I like more than meaningful baseball in the summer.
Funky Fukudome just walks to drive in a run, Hot damn, this is fun.

Now if they can just get one more consistent starting pitcher.

Another six run inning? Sweet jeez.

Not to get carried away, but I wonder what's the record for most 5+ run innings, and are the Cubs at least close to being on pace for it?

And it's not like they can only score them in bunches, otherwise they go cold. They get their 1's and 2's too. And then when they get someone in the ropes, it's like a pinball machine.

Curious why B&B today said the Marlins lead the league in runs.. uh no, that would be the Cubs.

Reason, I know. This is quite enjoyable to say the least.

edit, wait, another 5-spot??? holy smokes.

Hey, did everyone just see Yul Brenner at the game?? WTF??!!

Because occasionally, they remove their heads from their asses long enough to talk out of them.

Honestly, I was glad the 7th was so short. that Jersey boy homo was irritating me. Why hasn't anyone brought up the terrible 7th inning guest conductor and how terrible it is yet?

This lineup is deep.

With the way guys like Derosa and Johnson get on base, Soriano should see his share of RBI opportunties out of the lead off spot.

Novel idea, maybe someone will start a thread about that.

Was that Zambrano's dad? I had the sound down. But they showed him at least twice, and now watching Z's postgame, the guy had quite a resemblence to Z.

I didn't mean to call Z's dad Yul Brenner. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

There's the leadoff homer the Cubs have been waiting for.
Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have the lead. The sooner Soriano hits lower in the order and we have a legit leadoff hitter at the top of the lineup, the better.
Poll question for the Cubs fans. What do we need more, a leadoff hitter or a starting pitcher? I'd say starter (good one. Gotta give up a fair amount at the deadline to get him), but what do I know?

Estes scores a run after two outs? Yeah. Pitching. Definitely pitching. Shit.

No doubt we need a starter. I don't see this as a Championship team with Lieber and I know Marquis is FUCKING UNRELIABLE.

Cubs get beat by a guy making is first start in 2 years. Doesn't help when you have Marquis pitching. I hate when hes interviewed and I have to see that huge nose.

I have heard Dan Plesac a couple times now say that Marquis has good stuff and that he should trust it.

Bull.

The fact is in his last three outings even his outs have been hit hard. He is lucky a lot of his line drives have been hit right at fielders or he would have given up more runs.

I actually agree with Plesac. Marquis had some great movement on his 2 seam fastball last night but couldn't get it over the plate. Then he'd throw his 4 seamer over the heart of the plate and get hit.

Would have let him swing away or bunt to the 1st base side.

I agree let Theriot swing away. Guy has been hitting the ball pretty well and has one bunt for the season. Killed any rally chance right there.

That fifth was a downer for me. Even after Theriot couldn't execute a bunt, I watched both Lee and Ramirez swing for the fences. Looks like the Cubs got caught up in the hit it high and let it fly mentality when the wind is blowing out. The self control was lacking. Estes looked bad, and got out of a few situations where he should've been lit up. In any event it's one game let's see how they respond tonight to Peavy.

i think theriot swinging away in that situation would have been ludicrous. that was a no-brainer bunt situation with lee and ramirez coming up. he hits into a double play, and the whole cubs fandom is screaming for lou piniellas head. it was a lousy bunt, but it was absolutely the right thing to do, down a run and with bad weather all around the area threatening.

Did you see Bill Simmon's column today on espn.com? Hilarious

Yeah, for the most part these semi-final matchups are getting pretty stale. I can't wait for the conf. finals to start

Yeah, that column was fantastic. The West semifinals seem decent.

So, they beat Peavy and lost to Estes???? Just when you think you have things figured out....Great win tonight, now hopefully they can go opposite field a lot tomorrow in the finale, against Maddux, who loves to live on that outside corner. It will likely be mad dog's last start in Wrigley. I hope he gets shelled. Great career for Greg, but I gotta hope he gets knocked around early and often. Probably going to get a look at Edmonds in center tomorrow for the first time too. That should be interesting too. Seeing Edmonds in blue, is going to be a bit weird. I don't like the move to get him, but now that he's a Cub, I hope he proves me wrong and plays great as a Cub.....but I'm skeptical to say the least.

Fantastic game. Very fun outing tonight. Perfect start with Lilly striking out the side, and right when me and Darkside are discussing if Soriano is or isnt a good leadoff hitter, and Im dogging him on the issue, he hits a leadoff jack off Peavy. Great game tonight, and although Im a Sox fan, I did have a little Danny Woo Woo in me after some beers.

A little???!!!
I thought I was going to have to pry him away from Wrigley last night. Folks, we have a near convert. I told him there's plenty of room for him on the North Side.
Y'all know I'm a Cubs fan, but damn, was I excited about going to see Peavy. It was outstanding to see Soriano pop him right off the bat!
And major props to you for hookin up a couple AWESOME tickets.
By the way, we're pretty sure we saw Harry immediately after the game going into the pisser near field box 122.
Anyhow, thanks again FF. U DA MAN!
