They're 75-47.
40 games remaining.

Can they win 100?

Sure they can.

I don't know if they will or not considering all those road games in September.

No.

They'll clinch at least a week, 10 days early and will end up playing quite a few callups during the last week of the season.

That is a good possibility as well.

I picked them to win 101 out of 162 games before the season started, but they would have to win 26 out of 40 to accomplished that task. That's just slightly more than half, so I'm pretty confident they can.

If they win 26 out of 40, that would be .650 baseball over that time period. That's a GREAT win percentage - that would have them with the best record in baseball by far if they were to do that over the entire season. So yes, they could do it, but it wouldn't be "slightly more than half" or quite as easy as you suggest.

I just figured that it was 6 more games than half (20= half of 40, 26= half of 40 +6). It all depends how you look at it.

Nah. 95 or 96, barring an epic failure, which I'm not ready to bar. The bigger question is whether the Nats lose 100.

Anything is possible. I think they want the best record going in to the playoffs and the brewers might still give them a run for their money.

When Lou managed the Mariners, they won what, 116 games one year? But they crapped out in the post-season. I just want them to have home field advantage up till the World series. As much as they have played very well on the road of late, they still are just a .500 team at this point, on the road. That means they are 28 over, at home. Big advantage for the Cubs, to be playing at the Shrine. 100 games is very possible, but also very unimportant. As previously stated by Rodeo Van-just win the 11 in the playoffs and that will be just fine.

Well, they have 38 games left. They're currently 28 over .500. That means that, if they go .500 from here on out, they'll end up with with 95 wins. Every additional win over a .500 record makes them 2 additional games over.

Lou has definitely learned his lessons from the 116 win season. Last year he had no choice but to tire his guys out since they were in a fight for the division until the last week of the season. This season he should be able to rest his guys a bit more the first few weeks of september, then kick it in gear a week or two before playoff time.

The only way you win 96 games and finish in 2nd place this season is if you play in the AL West.

If you win 100+ games and lose in the post season that only makes it sting more.

Ask Lou about his 116 win team that didn't even make the World Series in Seattle.

I think you mean AL East.

No. Red Sox have fallen off the pace a bit, and the Angels are probably going to win 102 or 103 games.

But who else in the AL West could win 96 games besides the Angels? You still have to figure the Rays and Red Sox as possibilities in the AL East.

Nobody can, its hypothetical. 96 wins is most likely gonna win the AL East or Central. 96 Wins in the West gets you the Wild Card, but the WC is not coming out of the AL West. My point was that Deacon was way off, 96 Wins takes the NL Central.

if the Cubs DON'T pull away over the next nine games, you better not discount the Brewers winning the division...remember, we're at the high point of a crest right now, so everyone's so positive...

96 wins, and only 3 more to go (leaving them playing 161).
Close.

100 wins would have been a nice total. But Lou got 116 in Seattle and exited the playoffs in the first round. I just want the 11 post-season wins now. If they get 99 reg. season, we can always say they were cheated out of the 100th, by virtue of the cancelled game with Houston. Although, there still remains a slim mathematical possibility that the Cubs will have to play that game on Monday, as Houston is still alive in the wild card. But that is unlikely.

1 win by either the Mets or the Brewers or a loss by the Astros eliminates Houston.
