Lee's not performing in the 3 hole, so how would you change the lineup?

1. Soriano
2. Theriot
3. DeRosa
4. Ramirez
5. Lee
6. Edmonds
7. Soto
8. Fukudome

If Johnson plays in center, switch Soto to 6 and Johnson 7.

This lineup alteration is smart! Finally something is being done! Derrek Lee will hit into far fewer DP's now! I would welcome this very important lineup tweak! Don't stop there! Make other changes! Move people around! Things must be done! Three losses in a row! Big trouble! Have a players-only meeting! Have a coaches-only meeting! Have a players AND coaches meeting! Meeting and talking + lineup changes = instant winning! The Brewers meet a lot, and look how good they are! The Cubs need to meet! Lou needs to lose his temper and throw a base! That kind of thing motivates a team to win! The Cubs need to get in a brawl to prove how good a team they are! These are things winning teams do!

PANIC! PANIC! PANIC!

I think at this point you need to throw in the towel and go with the youth movement:

1. Pie CF
2. Theriot SS
3. Hoffpauir 1B
4. Soto C
5. McGehee 3B
6. Fukudome RF
7. Fuld LF
8. Cedeno 2B

how bout we just stop playing soriano all together and find someone else to play in left so his defense never costs us again. their offensive numbers were almost the same with him out...

when his defense costs us playoff games, it won't seem like such a stupid thought...

The thing with Soriano is that he usually makes it up with his bat.

Put lee in the two hole as Soriano will either homer or strike out so it will prevent lee from hitting into the double play. Put Derosa for now in the 3 hole as he is red hot, and will get pitches in front of Aram and behind lee. Try for a week and just say fuck it boys lets have some fun.

I think Lee still has the lingering effects from the wrist injury of a couple seasons ago. He went from HRs and doubles to the opposite field hitter to pulling the ball for either a single, groundout or 6-4-3

I believe he used to bat 2nd in Florida so it's a spot he's familiar with and I think he'd do well there

Sounds good to me.

Statistically speaking, Soriano has about a month and a half run which makes his awful defense palatable. This however has never happened in either September or October, which is really the only time it counts. Love the Cubs, hate Soriano.

he did carry the team for a month, but I don't believe it was september. besides the somewhat scary pitching situation, he's the only impediment to a successful Cubs playoff run. I don't like being the bearer of bad news, but it's better to predict than say afterwards that you totally saw it coming. maybe he doesn't do anything bad in the playoffs, but I bet he does. He should be a DH for the rest of his career, and the Cubs would be doing well to eat a big part of his contract and trade him to an AL team next year.

he hit .320 with 14 homers and 27 rbi last september, statistically speaking. i'll take that and live with a misplayed ball out in left now and again.

you still like fukudome against lefties? he did get a hit off one last night. i wouldnt make any major changes in the lineup - they are having a tremendous offensive year, why fuck around with what lou has been doing successfully all year?

Sure couldn't tell it by 99% of your Cubs posts. All you ever do is bitch and moan. Do you ever say anything positive about the Cubs? Why even Mr. Reason says something positive once in awhile.

First off, I love the Cubs enough to have season tickets. Secondly, I can say lots of nice things about them: I'll list my top ten favorite Cubs moves:

1. Lou Pinella-brilliant...I was against hiring Joe Girardi.
2. Mark DeRosa-I figured he'd be the next Doug Dascenzo...
3. D-Lee for Heep-Never bought into Heep, and he was finished after his concussion-only time I've ever seen an ambulance in Wrigley, btw.
4. Harden Trade-I like Gaudin as much as Harden, and we gave up nothing.
5. Nomar trade-Looks stupid now but it was a wise move at the time.
6. Keeping Blanco-my favorite Cubs player. Signed him for good paper, didn't neccesarily have to.
7. Fukudome-still a better right fielder than the free agent market offered.
8. Bringing in Lofton, Simon and Ramierez for a horrible second base prospect.
9. Bringing Lieber back...he may yet play an important role.
10. Keeping Rothschild...good move.

Things I don't agree with, in short form-Lilly, Marquis and Soriano. Didn't like any of those moves for the amount of money they had to pay, don't like them now-they'll cost me every year for years to come in season ticket increases.

Thanks, now was that so hard 8)

Just throw in something positive once in awhile to offset the amount of bitching and moaning you do.

I know you want to be able to get on here if something messes up in the playoffs and say , see I told you so. But good god man it gets old. 8)

I hear ya...it just frustrates me that the very people who are talking Soriano up are the ones who'll be all p.o-ed when he inevitably drops fly balls and strikes out with the bases loaded on three straight pitches out of the zone...

a long time ago i came to terms with giving up defense for offense with soriano. his bat has far exceeded the harm he has caused in left field. i simply disagree with anyone who says they need to get rid of him because he doesnt play solid left field defense. bad fielding is hardly a surprise, and his bat has more than lived up to expectations.

How many games has Soriano cost the Cubs this year? How many games has he been instrumental in winning? What is the Cubs record with no Soriano in the lineup? What is their record with him in the lineup?

I rest my case.

if you look at the stats, offensively there was little change with Soriano out. the pitching was more problematic during Soriano's injury. They must have missed his defense.

It's not even his defense...when it counts THE MOST, he'll swing like Sosa in his return game in '05. No idea where the pitch is, just closes his eyes and swings. I hope I'm wrong regarding the playoffs.

As Silvy said with regards to DP Lee, consider the eye test: forget the stats for the moment. Soriano has been instrumental in a handful of wins for the Cubs this year. While his defense is occasionally lousy, I can't recall him ever being the cause of a Cubs loss.

Soriano is a frustrating player, but that just about seems endemic to being a Cub these days.

I hear ya...I am the only one on this. I think the Cubs are better with another contact hitter in the lineup instead of Soriano. My preseason wish was for Soriano to get hurt, the Cubs aquire Roberts and move DeRosa permanatley to left. Of course my other preseason wish was a Lofton signing by July, so maybe I'm a total fool....
