What does that actually mean? Are these the final bids? What is the process & timeframe after December 1st? What options / voice does Zell have?

There was a report that came out during the GM meetings that 1) Cuban would not be accepted, and 2) The team would still not be sold by the start of spring training (2009).

The prospective buyers were able to submit opening bids previously. But those bids were non-binding, meaning they could be retracted. This time the bids are binding and cannot be retracted. With the current state of the economy, it will be interesting to see what the final numbers are. Also, I am curious to see if the ballpark is included or separate.

To answer your question, Steve, the Chicago Cubs are for sale, and have been since the beginning of the 2007 season. It'll be interesting to see what happens, that's for sure.

Is English a 2nd language to you??? I did not ask a question.. I said that I curious to see whether or not the ballpark is included with the sale of the team, or if each might be sold separately. Thats as close as my post came to a question. I have been following this situation for a couple years now and am well aware of the fact that the team has been for sale for some time. Where did you get the impression I was not aware of this??

So is it as simple (yeah right) as these bidders submit bids by Decemeber 1st, MLB looks at them and chooses the one they want....thus the team is sold to that bidder? Is there any further negotiation? What "say" does Zell have?....Could he in fact tell MLB that their choice is not acceptable to him & refuse the sale?

This whole process is pretty messed up.

If true, a sweetheart deal for business buddies, while not exactly unheard of in the business world, would be annoying as hell. I want the most aggressive, competative, will to win kinda group I can get for my team.

Here's a thought. Why doesn't Cuban submit a bid, and the submit his bid to the Trib or the Sun Times or something. Bud would have a hard time turning him down if he bid was well above what the Canning group (and BTW didn't they already get excluded in the first round of bidding???) bids if the public knew about it. Yeah it's a dick move. Yeah it would be bargaining in public. But show us the truth about what goes on.
