When I say guy I mean the off the field leader and such.

I think Dempster is a good candidate. He already is taking over the bowling event and off the field is a lot like Kerry but with more humor and more personality.

The good thing about baseball is leadership in the clubhouse is somewhat overrated. Of course, when an idiot continously blasts his latin music, having a leader with a baseball bat may be a good thing. But to be completely serious, I think you have a couple of leaders. Soto has probably emerged as the leader for the pitching staff based on the comments you hear from other players. For the positional players, I dont think it will matter much, but Lee is always listed as "the quiet leader".

The way Dempster pissed down his leg in game 1 of the playoffs, i am not sure he is quite the leader. Not necessarily that he got beat but the way he got beat, afraid to throw strikes. Good guy in the clubhouse but a leader? probably not.


Not sure if the cubs have that vocal leader type, like Gary Matthews in '84. It probably is overrated this whole leadership thing anyway. Just because you talk a big game does not make you a leader. Perform on the field in the biggest moments and players will follow.

Do the cubs have a Mr. October type of ballplayer that will come up big in crucial situations? Obviously after the last couple of postseasons the answer appears to be a resounding NO.
