ESPN's resident douchebag Steve Phillips is reporting this deal is close to being finalized. Details to follow.

Rockies beat writer Troy Renck confirmed. The cubs save about $5 mil in the deal.

Luis-the one who has pitched for the White Sox and Brewers. He may end up being part of a package that goes elsewhere. The deal was all about saving money, as they are about to sign Bradley and are still tring to work a deal for Peavy, according to Bruce Levine. He also said that if a deal is made for Peavy, DeRosa will surely be a part of the package going to the Padres.

I wouldn't worry until it gets reported by a credible source, BF.

Glad to see Marquis go and save some money in the process.

I like Fontenot. What he has done in limited action, has been good. But even if he takes over at 2nd and does a great job, it's really a risk to give up DeRosa. He can sub for Ramirez at 3rd, Lee at 1st (though Hoffpauir can do that now), and play both corner outfield positions as well as 2nd base. I just don't think they need Peavy and his far higher ERA away from Petco, as much as Hendry seems to be determined to get him. I would still much rather have Roberts, if they are going to deal DeRosa. At least then you have filled a legitimate need, at the leadoff position.

I actually don't like this trade one bit.
This is the first drunken stumble towards mediocrity in 2009.

Not much he could do here. He screwed himself by back loading Marquis' contract so much. He needed to free up money to upgrade other positions. A shitty over paid middle reliever is the best he could do.

Being reported that DeRosa is going to the Indians for prospects.
Here, Cleveland, you win with all of the players we couldn't win with!

I would think this means Marshall will be in the rotation, taking Marquis place. I hope so. It's surely him or Samardzija. Unless of course they make another deal for a starter, which I don't think will happen. Cotts may be the lone lefty out of the pen.

Apparently this deal was just made official. The Cubs are paying 1 mil of Marquis' salary and Vizcaino is making 4 mil. Looking at Vizcaino's splits he seems to be able to handle righties but can't get lefties out to save his life. I wonder if the Cubs are going to be content to go into the season with Cotts and Marshall as the only two lefty options out of the pen. Especially with the fact that Marshall will probably be pressed into starting duty when Harden goes on the DL.
