Even though it is a limited sample size, I think we are starting to see why Fontenot is best coming off the bench and playing in limited games. As a starter, his weaknesses are beginning to be more exposed.

The problem being is that Aaron Miles isn't the answer either.

Cub Alarmist Comment coming in 3, 2, 1 - if Fontenot's offense continues to go in the crapper and Miles eventually takes over, what happens when Ramirez goes on his customary DL trip for 10 days? Fontenot, Miles and Theriot in the same lineup? Not good, fellas. Not good at all.

I don't like this team as currently comprised guys. We will probably still win the central, but I don't think it's going to be anywhere near the cakewalk that all the pundits think.

Moves I would make:

1) Send Guzman packing and bring up Samardiza. I'd say get rid of Patton and Vizcaino too, but I don't know who we would replace them with. Fox? Sure would be nice to have Gaudin right now.

2) Find a 2nd basemen somewhere. The answer isn't lil Babe Ruth or Aaron Miles. Maybe someone becomes available at the trade deadline. I don't know.

3) The backup problem at third base needs to be addressed as well. Can't see Miles or Fontenot spelling Aramis for an extended DL trip.

I don't know guys. As I said before, this team just doesn't feel right and I am starting to be able to see why now.

Another move I think I would consider making:

I think I would put Heilman into the rotation and take Marshall out and put him into the long relief role. Someone will need to spell Harden as well since he will only make about 25 starts and Marshall is already stretched out. I think he is more effective in relief.

Why get rid of Patton? He has been pretty solid, especially compared to some of the other pen guys.

Fontenot will be fine. Every player is going to have ups and downs.

RFDC - truth be known, I'd get rid of every one in the pen except for Heilman and Marmol. I don't like Cotts, Vizcaino or Gregg. Patton I guess might be ok - he just had that one bad outing - but the jury is still out too.

I hope you are right about Fontenot, but I have a feeling if he gets 550 at bats he will have about a 245 average with 12 or 13 homers and 40 to 50 rbi's.
