I havent been following the Cubs as much as usual (thankfully) but I gotta say...theyre kinda hard to root for.

I mean heres my breakdown of what I think of most players

DLee...Double Play...asshole comments about Cub fans.

A Ramirez...Your a monster...when your not hurt or in October

Fontonot: Backup

Bradley: Fuck you!

Gregg: FUCK YOU!

Hoffpauir: why did you never learn to play any defensive postion?

Theriot: Your overrated... and you cant throw for shit.

Soriano: Nice Hop jack ass

Miles: You suck

Soto: Way to get fat...you came up and played extremely well...after Blanco told you to lose weight...you moron.

Neal Cotts: Why are you still here (in mlb i mean)

Aaron Heilman: You suck on levels that would make Les Lancaster cringe.

Dempster: All i can think when i see this guy...is what a pussy he was in Game 1 last year.

Marshall: Are you ever gonna pitch seven innings?

Fuck all of em

I have not watched much either.
Good review, but Les Lancaster set the record
for lowest ERA for a releiver in MLB history.
Or some shit like that. He was good if I remember
correctly.

UPDATED:Just looked at his stats. 1989 ,he had a career year and also
was a winning pitcher in a playoff game.

Les Lancaster forgot the count in Game 3 of that series and threw a 2-2 meatball to Robby Thompson because he thought the count was 3-0 and the Cubs lost 5-4 instead of winning 4-3 and going up in the series 2 games to 1.

But, I won't hold a grudge.

WOW,I don't recall that! BUT,I do remember blasting a young Greg Maddux for
not backing Will Clark off the plate in game 1. I called into the Chet Coppock show
that night and let my outrage be known. Chet was also pissed!

You can blame a lot of people on this team, but Soriano has had a pretty good year. There's lots of fingers to be pointed, but Soriano should not have many aimed at him. If you're looking for a scapegoat, its the guy who put this team together.

As always you never cease to amaze my. In May,Soriano is hitting .221 with a .269 OBP. For the year he is hitting .253 with about a .316 OBP. He is pitiful in the outfield.I would just like to know what a "good year so far" means to you?

while i agree Lee has been disappointing this year to an extent, to be fair to him he hasnt hit into a double play yet this year.

Hey NoNeck,it reads like your "hopping mad!"

Also, here is the simple answer Soriano should
NOT be leading off. According to the "experts",
he only leads off once a game. Then please tell
me why leadoff men ARE NOT RBI men if there is
no difference between batting 1st or 5th.The next
time a teams leadoff man has more ribby's then the
4th or 5th hitter will be the first!

he leads off because thats where he wants to hit, thats where he has by far the most success hitting in his career, and thats where he sees the most fastballs which is what he hits.

actually, lee was warming up quite a bit before he hurt himself. he had raised his average 40 points in the last 10 games, hitting .342 in that span with a couple home runs, with no DP's yet this year as mentioned by the earlier poster.

the neil cotts remark is the one i go back to. it amazes me that he still has a job. he has been consistently shitty for a long long time. id rather see any righty in there in any situation that cotts come in to face a lefty.

Lineout double plays aren't the problem. GIDP are.

Soriano is the least of the problems right now.

Derek Lee is & has been a slightly better than average ball player. Right now is is a way below average ballplayer. He had one big year, which was an abberration. He is a 20 HR, 75 - 80 RBI guy. I'll take Graces nunmbers every year over Lee's.
Boers & Bernstein defend Lee like he is a HOF's or something.

Youll take Grace's never knocking in 100 runs...ok.

Lee sucks...but he sucks cuz he resembles Grace.

mark grace didn't "suck". he was a singles and doubles hitter, and was good at it. if he HAD started hitting 30 HR and 100 RBI, now he would be getting accused of being a steroid freak like luis gonzalez. luis gonzalez was actually very similar to grace early on, but he "developed" power. grace was just a solid line drive hitter, nothing more, nothing less.

I agree. Many cub fans would have you believe he was much better than that.

I was listening to Rock and Joe over the weekend, and they were taking many callers bitching about Lee's production...they gave the stats during the losing streak...the team was batting something like .160 and Lee was batting in the .400s...he's the least of your worries right now...

Between Bradley, Miles, Cotts and Gregg there are more Cubs that I simply cannot stand on this team than there has been since the disasters that were Dusty's last few years in Chicago. Oh and FYI I dont care if David Patton was a rule 5 draft pick. He blows. You can lose him.

i can agree Lee has been on the decline and is not the player fans are wanting him to be. and he probably will never be again but hes still a good hitter overall and a good defensive first basemen. i just think hes become a scapegoat because cubs fans love to name scapegoats for why the cubs arent winning at any certain time. anyone who still thinks Hoffpauir should be starting over him is insane

i don't know what cubs fans were expecting this year, and i mean that rhetorically. but come on. it is really the same goddamn story every year.

The only ones that I classify as actual "jerkstores" are Bradley (obvious) and Soriano for the hair-tearingly maddening way he chooses to play the game (disregarding to the actual positive or negative output of those choices).

Pretty much everyone else is outwardly gentlemanly, although not necessarily gregarious.

As for Derrek Lee vs. Mark Grace:

Mark Grace's career OPS+ was 119. (Average player = 100).
Derrek Lee's career OPS+ is 122. Through 33 games this year, he's at 85.

I think Grace was more consistent at-bat to at-bat, game-to-game, year-to-year. Fans like that. Well...teams should like that too. Plus he was more friendly with the media. Derrek Lee isn't a bad guy - he's just quiet and boring.

Grace was a hitting machine. He had more hits in a 1o year period than any other player in MLB. I cant remember what the years were.

More typical runaway meatballs.

The comment calling Lee a jerk ARE EXACTLY why nobody with an IQ above 3 can blame the players who don't care about or hate the fans.

Hey, has it ever happened where, just to mess with the opposing pitcher, with nobody on base, the first base coach just ambles (or moseys) on over to the first base bag, stands there like a runner, then starts to lead off? Just to see what happens?

Could maybe even score on a double if nobody pays attention.

It's not a bad idea.
