JAKE PEAVY was stolen! The sale of the Chicago Cubs has been sitting in fucking limbo for 2 years. The guy who owns them, was a partial owner of the WhiteSox. I feel he has held this team hostage for most of those 2 years. THIS is the biggest story sportswise in this town! The Cubs were frozen out of any "Big Deal" because of uncertainy on the ownership front! Where is the "so-called" baseball commisioner?
Did his buddy,Reinsdorf, instruct him to let Zell work it out, knowing that would freeze out his crosstown rivals? It is a "crazy" conspiracy theory, but do you know or I know what goes on behind closed doors? MLB has the power to take the Cubs away from Zell (I think) if they feel he is working towards the detriment of the game. Instead of talking about this, let's talk about the MLB calling the new QB names. The radio stations (& media outlets) need to start investigating just what the hell is going on with this sale. They should stop getting info from team press releases and do their fucking job!!!!!

Actually as a Cubs fan I want to send Kenny WIlliams flowers.

I didn't want Peavy because he had some arm issues last season and is owed a zillion dollars over the next few years.

And he has terrible home/road splits.

And he might not be able to pitch this season. But I was saying no dice before the injury to his foot and we don't know if that will affect him either.

And the Peavy rumors were greatly exaggerated by the media.

When the Cubs back away because of injury concerns there has to be some since they have been known to sign dead people.

This isn't just about Peavy. It is a multitude of things: New GM? New manager? Maybe a new regime re-aquires Clark Ke,,,I mean Mark Derosa AND Matt Holiday. It would be nice to have a permanent answer at the ownership level.

Gee, and all these years I have been hearing the Cub Fans don't give a damn what the Sox do.

Great day for Cub Fans...lots of attention...Prior released and Kass has a genuinely classy column on Steve Bartman.

I do agree that the Cubs are sort of handcuffed until the team is sold. For Selig to allow this drag on a long as it has is truly disgusting and a joke.

That said, the Cubs have spent like drunken sailors since they were put up for sale. The team they have on the field today is a direct reflection on Hendry. Their payroll is such that any GM would be happy with, and should be able to do something with. Hendry has spent A LOT...and A LOT of it is BAD for years to come.

and fuck the Sox! Who cares?

ESPN can put Carmen and Silvy right on this....another bite of the apple....they can get an exclusive with Trotsky....er Reinsdorf, and he will lay out this great conspiracy against the beloved Cubbie and their fans.

I could go back to the start of this mess, when I said it would never work out. Way too many rich assholes (Reinsdorf, Zell, Cuban, Selig, etc) ALL OF THESE PEOPLE are used to getting their asses kissed on a daily basis and end up getitng their way as money can buy you something these days. In Reinsdorf's cae, you can buy your own mini government that approves money for you whenever you need it, but I digress.

"IF" MLB and Selig really acted in the best interest of Basebal, they would step in and force a sale to an approved group and part of that approval would be the structure of financing, as MLB seems to be very concerned about that as well.

MLB would then pick the new owner with a selction committee that would exclude Jerry Reinsdorf. Reinsdorf could be part of the initial phase of selection, but he is way too close to this to be the one picking the new owners as he has been trying to do for 2 years.,

BigFan,
It just seems to me this is a big story that the media outlets are just letting sit there!
There is a Reinsdorf connection to the Commisioner AND current Cubs Owner,Zell. Why is this moving at a snail's pace? Baseball took over the Montreal Expos a few years back. Somebody in the media needs to pursue this issue! I think it is real! Basically,MLB is leaving Zell alone and not putting the "screws" to him. The question is WHY?

It's a conspiracy,I tell you! Is it really impossible to beleive Reinsdorf whispered to Selig: "Let Zell handle it."

I think that is what is going on. Hendry has been hampered by adding any new big money contracts such as Peavy or whomever.

I don't think there's a conspiracy, but I do think it's dumb that Zell has been allowed to have ownership in two teams for this long even though it's against the rules.

I wish Hendry had been hampered before he signed Soriano and Bradley. Fukudome? I can't give him too much grief on that one because I had never seen him play, and there were other teams interested in him. The Cubs outbid themselves on Soriano and Bradley and that falls on Hendry. Both of those guys are losing ballplayers. Do you think teams like the Yankees give up on winners or do they give up guys like Soriano? Is there a wonder why Bradley has been on so many teams?

Even Dempster's contract was probably too much and that falls on Hendry again.

I'm glad Hendry has been hampered. I don't trust him to sign/trade for anyone at this point.

Have to start-up this thread again!! Cubs are fading,no major aquisitions while the Sox make 2 big ones. LIKE I SAID: Reinsdorf has conspired with the Commisoner of Baseball (Brewers former(???)owner) to FUCK up (delay) the Cubs sale! You can laugh at me all you want,I beleive this is what is going on. All I'm saying is Jerry tells his "Bud" let Sam handle the sale, leave him alone. One simple statement is delaying new Cubs ownership.

No,I doubt MLB read this shit on this board. I think it's more poor disipline & lack of concentration. a bat should not be flying 40 feet out of somebodies hands.

You're a jackass, for a few reasons, but I'll break them down for you.

Quote:

That's true. How good could Soriano possibly be if HE WAS TRADED FOR THE BEST FUCKING PLAYER IN THIS GENERATION? One for one. Soriano for ARod. Yes, I realize Texas wanted to get rid of his contract, but you're not traded for Alex Rodriguez if you're a "losing" ball player.

Oh and the Yankees would have won the 2000 World Series because of Soriano's 8th inning HR, but Mariano Rivera blew it in the bottom of the 9th when Luis Gonzalez won it for the DBacks.

For my 4,999 post,I thought I would "Kick" this thread again. I still think Reinsdorf is behind this new Cub ownership. A year or so later after complaining about the slow sale of the Cubs,we as fans find ourselves with one of the worst Cub teams in the past 30 years. This Ricketts guy was more worried about Ice Rinks and trowel removal (he didn't) then the fucking team. Pinella has proven to be tired and has lost the will to compete. Batting Lee 3rd all year has killed this team. Soriano has had a very pedestrian season,I still feel they should cut him. Should have been done before the season to light a fire under the rest of the vets.
