Got this from a poster on a Cubs message board I frequent: (NSBB)

Enjoy the ride:

8/19

Cards lose

Cubs 5.0 GB

8/20-23

Cubs split with L.A.
Cards take 3 of 4 in S.D.

Cubs 6.0 GB

8/25-27

Cubs sweep WSH
Cards take 2 of 3 vs. HOU

Cubs 5.0 GB

8/28-30

Cubs sweep NYM
Cards sweep WSH

Cubs 5.0 GB

8/31

Cubs win, Cards off

Cubs 4.5 GB

9/1-3

Cubs take 2 of 3 vs. HOU/CHW
Cards take 2 of 3 vs. MIL

Cubs 4.5 GB

9/4-6

Cubs take 2 of 3 @ NYM
Cards sweep @ PIT

Cubs 5.5 GB

9/7-9

Cubs take 2 of 3 @ PIT
Cards lose 2 of 3 @ MIL

Cubs 4.5 GB

9/11-13

Cubs sweep Reds
Cards take 2 of 3 vs. ATL

Cubs 3.5 GB

9/14-17

Cubs take 3 of 4 vs. MIL
Cards take 2 of 3 vs. FLA

Cubs 3.0 GB

9/18-20

Cubs take 2 of 3 @ STL

Cubs 2.0 GB

9/21-23

Cubs take 2 of 3 @ MIL
Cards lose 2 of 3 @ HOU

Cubs 1.0 GB

9/24-27

Cubs lose 3 of 4 @ SF
Cards swept @ COL

Cubs 0.5 back

9/29-10/1

Cubs sweep vs. PIT
Cards take 2 of 3 @ CIN

Cubs 0.5 up

10/2-10/4

Cubs take 2 of 3 vs. ARZ
Cards take 2 of 3 vs. MIL

Cubs win the division by 0.5 games

So the rest of the way:

Cubs: 32-13
Cards: 24-17

Obviously both teams won yesterday, so adjust this a little bit. Not even remotely likely to happen, but fun to dream about.

Yeah, I thought about this yesterday as well. I figured if the Cubs went
30-15 the rest of the way they might have an outside chance. Even if
they didn't win the division they would likely be in the Wild Card race.
They are due to play better but I just don't see it happening. The Cards
have been playing well and could hit a bit of a slump in the next few
weeks, tightening up the race, but the Cubs seem to play down to
their weaker competition. I will continue to follow along to see what
happens but I put their chances of winning the division now at 10%
at best. I see a Wild Card birth at maybe 25% chance, and that is
if they start playing closer to their potential. Interesting take on
things by your poster though.

I thought the gist of this would involve plane crashes for the Cardinals and the Wild Card teams ahead of them.

After the ellipses, shouldn't the rest of this read: "in 2015?"

This will all be a moot point after the Cubs get swept by the Dodgers. I hope I am wrong.

The only way the cubs win the division is if the entire cardinals roster contracts swine flu, even then I'm not entirely convinced the could beat the card's minor leauge squad

The Cubs won't win the division unless they go on a major run (possible with their schedule) and the Cardinals tank down the stretch (not likely with their schedule).

Done.

Isn't it impossible mathematically to win a division by a half game?

I don't think you can win a division by 0.5 games...

I apologize for the obvious statement, but there's no need to predict series by series at this point.

That's the big issue with this team that's been rehashed 1000 times, you really can't move any of these players.

And kids? If they do something dumb and bring up Cashner/Vitters/Carpenter, i'm going to lose my mind

No way they bring up Vitters or Carpenter. Vitters is 20 yrs old and was recently promoted to high A where he has struggled (.244/.262/.339). Carpenter was recently promoted to AA and has also struggled a bit (4 starts 0-2 4.96 ERA). Cashner has had a pretty good year. He pitched well at high A (0-0 1.50 ERA 12 starts) and pitched pretty well at AA (9 starts 2-3 3.29 ERA). He could get a September call up but I think they would like to get a look at him in AAA first. I guess they could bring Stevens and Samardzija back.

well id like to see them dump miles and bring back blanco in his spot when hes off the dl. there is NO reason to keep miles on this team. put him on waivers, release him, put him on a boat i dont care.

im not sure what their plans for jeff baker are. is he in the plans to play 2nd next season? hes shown he can hit a bit recently but i dont know if they plan on keeping him around. if not i say put him on waivers and see what they can get

id like to also get a look at some other options in the bullpen because the guys they have arent getting the job done. i know they wont dump gregg or heilman even though id really like to see that happen.

I wouldn't mind seeing John Gaub up here, he's been fairly solid.

Could they call up Ryne Sandberg to be player/manager?
