You might want to cut back on the drinking, much more and I fear that you'll do permanent damage :drunken:

Oh Dr. Ken, don't do this to yourself. . . focus on Illinois and the Bears....ok, well at least the Bears.

The Cubs have not made anything interesting all year long. Watching paint dry would be more exciting. No reason to think anything will change now.

It is football season!

I think the three teams between the cubs and Rockies are a bigger concern than the loss column.

I too believe! All this solid starting pitching has to pay off sooner or later!

In actuality, only the Rockies and Giants have fewer losses than the Cubs in the wildcard race.

Rockies - 64 losses (having lost 4 straight)
Giants - 66 losses (5-5 in their last 10)
Cubs - 68 losses (having won 8 of 10)

I'm going to ignore Atlanta and Florida at 68 losses for the purposes of my Kool-Aid drinking.

This fantasizing about what's needed to make the playoffs is more reminiscent of Cubs fans than Sox fans.

Damn, db-you can just put conns on ignore  I'm not completely back on board, but it's not completely over for the Cub, IMO, because they do have three against the Cards this weekend - we just need to be able to beat up on the Brewers like St. Louis has and...we'll see what happens (okay, trying to keep myself reeled-in, too)

5 against the Brewers
4 against the Pirates

And a 4 game series with the Giants. It could be done.

Question: Did this revelation of hope come from the Cubs playing better or from the disappointing start to the Illinois and Bears season?

Please stop. It's over. It has been over for nearly a month now. I have been in baseball hibernation since mid-August.

Unless the Cubs pull within two games with a week left in the season, and leap frog a couple of the teams in front of them, don't bother to wake me up.

Don't get mad at me because your team gave up already Frank.

Cubs are going after it - .714 ball in September.

I'm still trying to figure out the significance of 'the loss column' in baseball. The simple reason why the cubs are close in the loss column is because they have played fewer games.

Col- 146 SF- 145 Fla- 145 Atl- 144 Cubs- 143

I understand the significance in hockey because 2 points are awarded for a win and 1 point for a tie. If a team can win their 'games in hand' they can jump up in the standings very quickly. I guess it's possible the cubs can win all their 'games in hand' but they would still be 4 games behind the Rockies with 16- to play. That's a lot of winning for a team that has played .524% over 143 games.

Well, the Rockies have lost 4 in a row and are facing a sweep by the Giants today. But they get Arizona and San Diego, before having to face the Cardinals, Brewers and Dodgers to end the season. It would be reasonable to guess that the Rockies might split their remaining 16 games. If they were to do that the Cubs would have to win 12 0f their remaining 19 games left. With the Giants also winning no more than half of their remaining games. It's possible with the schedule they have. But the 3 game series vs the Cards that starts on Friday, as well as the 4 game series vs the Giants that starts a week from Thursday, will not make it too easy. But it's starting to get more interesting. Unfortunately, they can't just play the Pirates the rest of the season, though they do have 5 games left with them!

Win/Lose totals in their remaining games and percentage chance to make the playoffs:

20-0: 98.5%
19-1: 92.7%
18-2: 75.2%
17-3: 50.8%
16-4: 27.6%
15-5: 11.1%
14-6: 3.0%
13-7: 0.5%
12-8: less than 0.1%
11-9: less than 0.1%

Yea. Mighty strong Kool-Aid you've got to be drinking. But I'll keep watching until that 9 wins or less amount
