Too many times,the offense went to sleep this year. The RBI totals for most on this team was pathetic. I know injuries played a factor,also. Herec are some numbers.

Out of 30 MLB Teams:

Cubs-
14th in HR's
19th in TB
9th in (offense)strike outs
17 in OBP
26th in BA
27th in total hits!!!
=====================
Pitching:
ERA was 5th in the majors!
Hits allowed was 4th! (least amount of hits allowed)
========================

hey, at least they finished with a winning record. This team is OK, but its by no means good nor should it have won enough games to go to the post season. They really arent a team, especially offensively, they all have at least one key weekness that can be and was exploited. Soriano is garbage, all he does is log stats when it doesnt matter. He is a mistake ball hitter. when it matters he is crap and cant even do the simple things such as lay one down or hit a sac fly or hit it to the right side to advance a runner. This organization needs a philosophical house cleaning. The cubs are the redskins of mlb.

The Cubs finishing with a winning record, third straight year means nothing to me.

It doesn't make the last few weeks of the regular season any less painful, knowing the games meaning nothing. I guess it's better than the mid '90s and prior when they were constantly finishing below .500 and in 4th place or worse. It all sucks still and I won't take solace this winter just because they had a winning record. It's not good enough for what Chicago deserves.

We seem to get just what we deserve while throwing money at these sports franchises.

Once they were rid of their corner outfielders (Soriano to surgery and Bradley's suspension) they looked like a better team. Some of what you say about Soriano I have been saying for years. But when you say that Soriano can't bunt or hit to the right side to advance a runner, how do you know that???.....he has not tried yet. That's the real problem-guys not executing is frustrating. But guys not even trying to do the right things and trying instead, to do things they would rather do, is far worse.

Oh please. They finished the season with a decent stretch because they were playing teams that had quit for the season long before the Cubs did. Soriano and Bradley are both fundamentally poor ball players, but if you think the Cubs would have been this hot all season with Babe Fox, and Blue Jesus on the field, then you are just baseball retarded.

I never said anything close to that, so don't try to put those words in my mouth. I just like to see players who actually hustle in the field and play more fundamentally sound. Plus, the distractions Bradley caused all year certainly were not missed. They did play some crappy teams down the stretch and it made winning in September easier, no doubt. No, I don't think they should have just had Fox and Fuld out there all season. They should have signed Ibanez or Abreau this past winter, is what they should have done. It was clear then, as it is now, that it's unlikely they will ever be able to find someone interested in taking on Soriano's terrible contract, so he's not going anywhere and with the money he's paid, I don't believe he's going to be benched either.

the lack of fundamentals are much easier to forgive when a player is performing at the level he was paid to do. but frankly soriano hasnt lived up to what he was supposed to bring this team. he has been often injured, he has been non existent and a base stealer and he hasnt even hit for a ton of power the last couple years. all you can hope for as a cubs fan at this point is that he comes back from surgery and stays healthy and atleast hits for average with some pop in the 6th hole. you cant change the shitty contract and there is probably not going to be any takers for him so saying he needs to be gone is useless. he is going to play for this team whether you want him or not

If Soriano can't hit to the opposite field or bunt, then I don't want him trying during the regular season. That is what the off-season is for to try and work on your weaknesses.

Isn't hindsight such a wonderful thing? Last offseason, Bradley had the best offensive statistical numbers than any other Left handed free agent so you can't fault Hendry for that reason. However you can fault him for his judge of character and mental stability of Bradley. And you will always find at the end of the year in clubs who are out of the pennant, players who are hustling their asses off because these are the players who are playing for a roster spot next year. This is their time to showcase themselves in front of the world to see.
