Well, some say that humor is a good sign of intelligence, so I guess that the people of Saint Louis are pretty damn smart, because that was pretty damn funny.

One guy that hit for the Cubs in last years playoff series against the Dodgers, was Mark DeRosa. He is hitting well in this series too, but will probably be on the losing end once again. The Cardinals picked a bad time to have a lull in their season, as they struggled the last few weeks of the regular season after clinching early (as the Cubs did in 2008) and their struggles continue now in the post-season. I can see where a comparison could be drawn.

What are your thoughts on the Cubs world series run in 1998?

That I wish there had been one. Great year for Sammy hitting home runs though and the Cubs were in contention for the division, but the Cardinals took it, with Big Mac, also taking the HR title....at that point, of all time, for a single season. Fun summer though.

The astros won the division.

Steve is slowly morphing into Archie Bunker. The racial comments, and morphed memories of history are becoming really bad. I can only imagine he misprounces alot of words if you meet him in person.

Perhaps thats right, I guess it was for the wild card. I remember going to a lot of games that year, including in Milwaukee down the stretch, to follow the Cubs/Sammy vs Mac and it was a lot of fun. Losing to Atlanta 3-0 was not so much fun, but that was a great Atlanta Braves team and Sammy didn't hit much against their pitchers. Nobody else did either.

Did the Pirates win the third wild card? I hope so.

Whats intersting to me is how La Russa reacts. When they did the Tinkers to Evans to No Chance article, he refused to answer any questions from the paper for what he percieved as a "Cheap shot at the cubs"

If that was a cheap shot, this is sucker punching a blind guy, I wonder if La Russa will stick to his guns, even in the postseason. It actually doesnt matter much because he'll still talk to all the other outlets. But Im still interested in La Russa's take, if he has one.

He may be to consumed with 0-2, courteousy of Stonehands Holliday and despite having Hall of Famer Mark De Rosa :D

Could be that LaRussa is considering tallking to the Cubs when the playoffs are over. His contract and that of pitching coach Dave Duncan , are up at that point. It would be smart of LaRussa to at least use the Cubs for leverage, in negotiating his next contract-assuming the Cubs GM (Hendry or other) are smart enough to contact them.

Not going to happen. Unless Tony wants a summer off.

You look now at the comparisons between the Cardinals and last years Cubs team and there are certainly similarities. Both had great regular seasons and clinched the division early. Both played rather poorly at the end of the regular season and got beat by the Dodgers in round 1 of the playoffs. Now it's gonna be interesting to see what the Cardinals do in the off season. Holiday, Piniero and DeRosa are free agents and its very possible they sign elsewhere. Very anxious to see what the Cubs do this winter too. Whether the payroll stays about where it's at (my guess) or if Ricketts wants to spend a bit more/less.
