"My family and I are thrilled that this day has finally come ... Now we will go to work building the championship tradition that all Cubs fans so richly deserve," Ricketts said.

Funny because you don't think he is thrilled? Funny that he thinks Cubs fan deserve a championship tradition? Or just a terrible subject thread?

funny because Cub fans have heard this shit about at least 20-25 times since the hiring of Durocher in 66. The next owner/gm/manager is always full of hope and promise. Don't insult my threads and maybe I can stop laughing at your avatar. Nobody in my avatars ever hugged it out!

I'm not insulting the thread that is discussing his first press conference as the official owner. My point is what would you like him to say? I know it's the same old shit that obviously hasn't come true for over a century. Silence is not fucking golden in this situation.

I don't even see what's funny about it. So they've heard it before, why does that make it funny? Sad maybe.

I think JP is obliquely saying that "we've heard that song before" - and while there may be no better thing that the new owners really could say, I think he's just letting off a little steam that, in fact, we've all been tempted time and again with promises of winning, only to have Lucy yank the damn football yet again.

It's not funny "ha ha" ... it's funny either gallows "humor" or funny as in "suspect".

Anyway, I get what he's saying.

Thank You,Don Tiny. I apologize if my meaning gets lost through the internet, but you are correct!

I would like him to say is this:
"I too am a Cub fan. I can't promise a secret formula for success but what I can promise is a low tolerance for bad baseball, bad trades, bad signings, uncaring athletes,a bad farm system. I will soon hire a president of baseball operations and let the chips fall where they may!"

makes a world of difference when a thread like this is started by a cubs fan and not a sox fan.

What exactly is he supposed to do, jimmynoodle? Take the podium and say, "Here's to another century of losing?"

I see nothing wrong with anything he said. Perhaps it did sound a lot like the king of rhetoric heard before by Cub fans, but as long as its sincere and he takes the steps needed to attain the goals he stated...fine.

Lots of talk about the inevitability of selling the naming rights. Looking at other new arenas which are blank slates, teams are having a difficult time selling naming rights these days. Businesses are realizing it's a huge investment with little return. In the case of Wrigley Field, being the business that changes the name of the Cubs' park could be a bigger negative than positive. Why are Mac, Bernstein, et al so certain that this will be done and has to be done? A lot of it feels like wishcasting from White Sox partisans who want to take away something special about the other team's park, The Shriiiiiinnne, give a corporate name just like everybody else. It's no guarantee.

What are his thoughts about black fans coming to the park?

A true White Sox partisan would want them NEVER to sell the naming rights to Wrigley because all it does is give them less to spend on the product on the field.

Lets say they sign a 15 million dollar a year deal to make it "CSFMB Park at Wrigley Field" and they are able to sign another free agent.

A true White Sox partisan wants them not to win the World Series.

You make the mistake of thinking a true white sox partisan is gonna think these things out.

What else is he going to say

"We want to finish last every year. We're going to blow up Wrigley. The fans suck, they're all ugly and their mothers dress them funny"

Actually that would have been funny if he had done that jokingly.

Wonder why he didn't address the racists in the bleachers that you have uncovered?
