I think only Mike Murphy can answer this but wanted to ask anyone who knew. Was watching MLB network tonight and they had the 1945 World Series on. I was surprised that in the series, the first 3 games were at Det and the last 4 of the series at Wrigley.

So a 3-4 series instead of the usual 2-3-2. Was there a reason they did 3 AL home followed by 4 AL home? Was this the only year they did this? I think only MR. MISS A LITTLE MISS A LOT can answer this!

p.s. - first time ever I saw a WS at black and white wrigley field. Was really weird watching it. Pathetic that they've not been back since 45.

I guess it had to do with world war 2,limiting travel for whatever reason.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1945_World_Series

The World Series again used the 3–4 wartime setup for home field sites, instead of the normal 2–3–2. Although the major hostilities of World War II had ended, some of the rules were still in effect. Many of the majors' better players were still in military service. Warren Brown, author of a history of the Cubs in 1946, commented on this by titling one chapter "World's Worst Series". He also cited a famous quote of his, referencing himself anonymously and in the third person. When asked who he liked in the Series, he answered, "I don't think either one of them can win it."

this mlb network is really great. they had the cubs vs phillies from July 12 1969. yes those cubs were on. First time I ever really seen a full game of them. I wasn't born to see them but I usually berate this team since they didnt win shit and still are talked about like they're some folk story team amongst the last generation of cub fans, most of our dads i.e. mike murphy types.. But it was interesting to see them actually play and come back and win this game some 40 + years ago. Very interesting to see the manager Durocher there sitting on the edge of the dugout instead of with the team like today. Maybe it was the way it was back then.

What's the deal with the B/W telecast? Didn't they have color back then. I'm sure that WGN was in color then but I think this must have been a network game since Brickhouse wasn't the announcer.

So we see these old clips of the cubs from 45 and 69, just great. Hopefully they put something on from 84 or even the late 70s, like that phillies game that ended 23-22 or something like that.

MLB network is pretty good considering that I did not watch 1 freaking MLB game this year.

Hi Hawaii,
Thanks for the tip. I never watch it. Did not know they show games that old! I did see the '69 Cubs. They were a great starting 8,but no speed.
