The Cubs have traded Jake Fox and Aaron Miles to the A's for RHP Jeff Gray, RHP Ronny Morla and INF/OF Matt Spencer.

Huh. Not sure who the hell these guys are but getting rid of Miles is a plus.

Levine said the Cubs are also eating $1million.

Fine. As long as Miles isn't in a Cubs uniform, I'm a happy camper.

I'd like to think that most of us Cub fans realize Fox was born a DH and has no place (In my best Jim Frey voice) on our ballclub.

To save other people from looking these guys up:

Jeff Gray 28 years old, RHP 2 years experience in the bigs

Only pitched in 5 innings his rookie year, so I'll give last years stats

IP-26.1
ERA-3.76
SO-23
Walks- 4
WHIP- 1.387
BB/9-1.5
K's/9-6.7

Usually has a 95-97mph fastball.

Both Morla and Spencer spent last year in the minors. Morla in Single A Morla in 12 stars went 1-7 with a 4.86 era and Spencer(LH) played LF/RF/CF/1B splitting time between single and double A hitting .289 19 home runs 91 rbi's and a .833OPS across both leagues

Kudos Jim, you got more than a bag of used baseballs in any deal with Miles involved.

Can't say I like this - and I hope I am wrong! I hope this guy that throws "95-97" per Hnedry is decent and makes a statement in the pen, if so GREAT!

But what I dont like is trading Fox without Bradley! I always felt Fox is that guy you throw in at the end to make the deal! Not that he will be great bat he has shown he can hit MLB pitching and should improve as he is a pure hitter.

All said and done they probably saved under $2 million from this years cap, that plus the money from the Ice Rink, we should be good!

It is too bad they had to trade Fox to get rid of last offseasons mistake. This Gray character looks like he has a chance to grab a bullpen spot so the trade wasn't a total loss.

Agree, how about the fact the had to pay $1 Mill to trade $3 M?????

Personally, I think Billy beane just asks for the extra $1M

At least hendry is trying to kick greg and miles under the rug as soon as possible. Now just get the fuck rid of milton and I will no longer be upset about last year and will be ready to move forward.

Is that the same Hendry that signed the POS in the first place? I agree that it is addition by subtraction.

Glad to see Miles go obviously. Just sucks that we had to get rid of Jake Fox to do it. Too bad it wasn't Hoffpauir going to Oakland.

the only way someone would take miles was if they included someone like fox. he had no real purpose on this team anyway. he is a dh. although i too wouldve preferred hoffpauir be the one traded i think fox had more value at this point

Is it possible this is somewhat of a make good deal based on the Harden trade? We got Harden for a bag of suck, so maybe Beane took Hendry out for a steak dinner and boom, he gets Fox to smooth things over in the relationship. I think Fox has proven he can hit major league pitching, and he's cheap, so Mr. Moneyball wins on two fronts. Just a thought.

As much as I liked Fox, he's best served in the AL. Dude can rake but he's a butcher, plain and simple. Lee's going to play at least 2 or 3 more years, if we can't trade Bradley (gasp) he is going to play in the outfield along with Fuk and SorryIcan'thitnow and Ramirez will be healthy next year hopefully.

At best Fox would be a late inning pinch hitter and backup on the corners.

I'd rather have a bullpen arm that can make a difference after looking at the shit Lou threw out there last year.
