It takes talent to call a game on the radio while wiping drool from Ron's face at the same time.

Well deserved. Listening to the Cubs on the radio in the summer is one of life's simple pleasures because of Pat Hughes.

+1. Big fan of Hughes. His knowledge of the game is 2nd to none.

Why is the award being presented in North Carolina if it is for Illinois broadcaster of the Year?

Too cold? Pussies.

In a way, he's even better than Vin Scully.

He does a one man booth while babysitting

I like the Cubs on the radio too...Sox radio sucks since Rooney left (minus the one year with Stone).

I really like Hughes, and I just can't wait for Santo to go away. For good. Along with the rest of the '69 Losers. GO THE FUCK AWAY. I'M SICK OF SEEING YOU, LISTENING TO YOU, AND HEARING YOU CRY.

I lived in a market that had the Dodgers feed when Mr. Scully was still in his prime. Vin Scully was the spring, summer and if the Dodgers were good the fall. I am a big fan of Pat Hughes and understand the nod to Hughes given the screaming loon in the corner. He deserves every accolade he gets. But he is not Mr. Scully.

I agree. Scully is the best. (although his joy at the cubs demise in 08 was curious)

i was just using him to make the point

I wish I had a chance to hear some other baseball radio guys in their prime. I know the names (especially now that they are all dying) but never had a chance to truly compare who was great and who was overrated just because they had been around for 50 years. I like to think of Mr. Scully as the best and Hughes is very close to as good in a two man booth with someone that is as skilled as he is. The shows when he was with Stone were quite good. I just don't know about the others that have recently died. Were any of them as good as people make them sound now?

Check these out: http://www.baseballvoices.com/ I've heard bits and pieces of them, but very good.

Of course it is, unless Jay Leno wants the job.
