ESPN Chicago's Bruce Levine writes that the Cubs "appear close to adding outfield depth," and notes that a decision on Xavier Nady, Reed Johnson, Jonny Gomes, or Jermaine Dye "appears imminent."

I'm guessing they resign Reed Mantle.

The guy on that list that I have no interest in is Johnny Gomes....which means the Cubs are about to sign Johnny Gomes.

Fuck Bruce Levine.

Hopefully Mantle or Dye I suppose. Dye would be nice to be able to give Kosuke/Lee a day off and provide a bit of pop as long as it's a bargain basement type contract.

If they do there goes the clubhouse chemistry. Gomes is a world-class douchebag.

I don't think I want any of these guys playing more than 50 games.

No its fine he had dinner with Jim Hendry and told him that he has changed and that it won't be a problem anymore. Hendry is an excellent judge of character.

When healthy he can really hit. He may be the starting left fielder by June 1.

I am fine with this signing I think that if healthy Nady has the most upside out of any of these canidates. The 1 year deal minimizes the risk and if and when Soriano goes down with another bad hammy you can get by for a few weeks with Nady, Byrd and Fuku.

$$$

Soriano would have to be like sub .200 in June for that to happen.

Hendry with multiple good moves in a row..almost makes me hate him less, but not quite

I take my +1 back unless you mean starting right fielder. I don't know how they can sit the $136 million dollar man.

not too bad to get through this season. 1 year deal with some real upside potential. too bad its another roster spot taken up by yet another righty, but at this point you just need bodies, and he is a good option as a 4th or platoon outfielder. when healthy this guy can play a little. decent signing. i still havent heard the money though - has that been made public yet?
