===========================================================
MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Carlos Silva solidified his claim on a spot in the Cubs' rotation with four shutout innings and Xavier Nady had a two-run double Tuesday, leading Chicago to a 4-1 victory over the Texas Rangers.

Silva allowed two singles, hit a batter and struck out three in his sharpest outing. Acquired from Seattle for Milton Bradley with two years and $25 million left on his contract, the righty has pitched seven scoreless innings since getting hit hard in his first game.

Nady's RBIs were his first since signing a $3.3 million contract to back up all three outfield positions. He has been limited to DH duties while recovering from Tommy John surgery on his throwing arm. He doubled again in the eighth.

If this turns out half as well as the last time we dumped a player like this and got what we thought was bumpkis in a trade it would be sweet (hundley for Karros and Grudzlianek (spelling).

I thought he was pretty good as a Twin and he does have ability. Still, I would not rely on spring training as a predictor of regular season success (unless we are talking about the great Andruw Jones, of course).

Will they let Andruw Jones wear a White Sox hat for his Hall of Fame induction ceremony?

Who is suggesting that about Jones?

As for Silva, when he is making that type of money, there's going to be some role for him. I thought he would have to be horrible in the spring to lose a starting role. Fortunately for the Cubs, he has given them reasons for hope.
