Spent some time this evening with people who claim to be "good friends" with the Tom R and his wife. I am going to venture they are not Good friends, but their kids go to school together, he is a stock broker and thus , they have some things in common.

The "Give them some time" line is really getting old quick. Heard this now from many different people, who are either connected to the guy or feel/want to be connected to him via some obscure relationships and thus feel they know him.

I have this feeling that the revenue is not exactly what the Ricketts thought it would be and the expenses are slightly higher than expected. Well, wait until late August and watch that revenue fall like a rock.
Then the cost cutting really starts. I have a feeling this 5th round draft pick, made in the first round, might have had some cost cutting too.

Did anyone see how fast the had the Toyota sign up, from City Council approval to Fully installed in 4 hours!!!!!! Thats a $2 mill per year sign, so maybe they got $1.4M this year. I know $1.4 M would help anyone or any team, but thats a journeyman 2B cost and SHOULD BE a drop in the bucket if you own a MLB Team?

All I want at this point is to see the owner care as much about the baseball side of this team as the business side, because the assumption that people will just come out no matter what they do is falling apart really fast and creeping into the business side faster and faster.

Yes, that means finding a home for Colvin on a Full Time basis, if that means benching Fuku, fine. trading Xa Nady, fine. Go ahead and trade Chad tracy or Jeff Baker as well, take that money off the books. Lilly, thanks. Randy "I hang with Greg Olsen and sucked the last 4 games" Wells, can bite me, send him to the minors.

I will say I don't have much confidence in the "other" Ricketts clan (Tom's brothers and sister). They seem like goofballs. But for some reason, I think Tom is a bright guy. I think he has done an analysis of Hendry's moves over the years and is unimpressed. I think he sees that his field manager is burnt out and is losing interest fast. I don't think he'll fire either of them during the year, however, much to the dismay of Cub fans. I think this guy is very analytical (being from the financial management industry) so he will let the season end, do a detailed analysis to find a GM that will manage the club the way he wants, and let that guy hire a manager and make personnel decisions. I am hoping he goes in the direction of the "new blood" type of GM, a Beane/Epstein/Cashman type, not a old school GM like Hendry. I hope he sees that he can free up $25M from letting Lee and Lilly go and use that money for a slugging lefty 1B like Gonzalez, Dunn, etc. Maybe add another lefty bat and install Colvin as starting RF. Let's face it, Stone isn't the only guy in the world that knows what the Cubs need. We all do.

Colvin's welcome to take up residence in RF approximately 10 miles South of Wrigley. Colvin's an AL player anyhow. Too much power and skill for the senior circuit.

This is Jim Hendry's job, not Tom's.

Anyone who thought the Cubs would be good this year weren't paying attention. And that has nothing to do with Tom and the family. Hendry and company have set this organization back many seasons, and it won't be easy to turn things around on a dime.

Is it Rickett's fault that Hendry is still here? 100%. And hopefully this is the last season we see him in the front office.

Exactly. I have been saying this for awhile. I don't understand at all why so many think it is Ricketts job to deal with cutting players, etc.

You can't talk about the bad paper Hendry has given out. If you do, it means you are bitter and/or have an axe to grind. That's what I have learned here, anyway.

It's unfortunate that you haven't been awake the last 10 years. This thing with Stone goes back farther than the last 4 days.

Have a good day regardless!

Ricketts isn't concerned about winning right now. I think he's got short term money problems with this purchase. He's looking to develop new revenue streams. Attendance is down which is why they're messing with the rooftops again. The Cubs created an entire scalping network of their own. I think they're going to find little sympathy if a broker gets a hold of rooftop tickets and sells them on game day- whether it's legal or not.

This season was over well before it started. I said it then, and I'll say it about next year too.

Steve Stone's baseball genius, like that of Kenny Williams, is highly overrated here in Hooterville.   :)
