CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano has been suspended indefinitely after a dugout tirade Friday, according to Cubs general manager Jim Hendry.

Zambrano had to be separated from teammate Derrek Lee in the visitor's dugout after surrendering four runs to the Chicago White Sox in the bottom of the first inning at U.S. Cellular Field.

It was unclear what upset Zambrano, but his frustration was directed at Lee. The two were face to face before manager Lou Piniella and others intervened. Zambrano also walked up and down the dugout shouting and knocked over a Gatorade cooler before Piniella told him to go home.

Tom Gorzelanny replaced Zambrano in the top of the second, and the Sox went on to win 6-0, their 10th straight victory.

"He was ranting and raving and out of control," Piniella said after the game. "We just couldn't tolerate that.

"It was embarrassing. There's no excuse for this, none at all."

Piniella said he would support Hendry's decision.

"It's a serious matter," Piniella said. "There's no need for this, none at all. I'm embarrassed. Carlos should be embarrassed."

It's been an unusual season for Zambrano, who struggled early before being sent to the bullpen. Zambrano was making his fifth start since returning from the bullpen. He was 2-2 in his last four before Friday.

Hendry why don't you suspend yourself and Lou while you are at it. I wonder how long word of this will take to get to the owners out on safari, how the fuck do you own a team and take a vacation in the middle of the season. They should have let Cuban buy the damn team , we would not have this shit.

Z is an emotional guy.If Lou went out there and got the team fired up by getting thrown out people would be applauding him. Z was calling D Lee out on a lackadaisical play that gave up the first hit. Just shows how fucked up this team is.

True he gave up a homer, it happens but if was a lazy play as seen by Z he should call him out. We have been sitting here crying about the lack of heart and spirit shown by this team and when someone does it we jump all over him.

The difference between Ricketts & Cuban is about $1.1 Billion. It is estimate that Ricketts is worth $1.2 Billion. He bought the Cubs for $900 Million. Do the math, There isn't much left.

Come on Chas. It's one thing to try to fire up your team, but to go nuts like Z did is out of line. Judging from the reaction of the rest of the Cubs in the dugout, it appears that the payers are fed up with this goof.
2 years ago I said that the Cubs should trade Z while they can get something for him. Another bad non move by Hendry. He probably thought the great Rothschild would turn Z into a great Pitcher just like he did with Woody & Prior.

I know Im not really trying to stick up for him but to bash management for how they have fucked up this team. This was bound to happen ,I just thought it would have happened later.

Two completely different issues.

#1. The Cubs are fucked up.

#2 Z is a nut case.

Better than the first effort, but I don't see much longevity in this mult.

Knowing how the Cubs operate they will trade him for a single A player and pick up 60% of his remaining salary. I've never seen a team kill the value of their own players like the Cubs. When Kenny Williams got pissed at Rauch a few years back he calmed himself down and talked him up enough to get someone to trade something for him.

That's like saying if you had $1M in the bank and you financed a home for $900k that you don't have much left. Ricketts didn't put up every dime of his money. He financed it and I'm sure he has partners.

Easy, easy ..... no need to explain it ..... if it had thought it made a point, it would've logged off for a while ....... :?

You know you've put together a good team when you have to indefinitely suspend players in back-to-back seasons.

I really would like to know exactly what went down as I believe most of us do. Its really easy to blame z and call for his head, but I would like to know for sure. The more I hear about this the more I think Z was calling out lee just like everyone of us cubs fans do at home. If Z was going crazy on his own then so be it and suspend and trade him, but if he was calling out lee for dogging it then its a total reversal and i like it. If that is the case I want d lee gone asap. I can not stand him now and i could not stand him before. He is the definition of a corporate douche.

LoLz. I was just watching this clip on Sportscenter and they blurred both Lee's and Z's mouths while they yelled at each other, but simultaneously playing Brenly's "Deadass" audio comment during the confrontation.

Disney Sports never ceases to amaze me.

If it wasnt such a pattern with Z, it wouldnt be that big of an issue. I do think the bullpen-switch thing was an underlying issue. Maybe he suppressed most of his contempt for that situation, and it exploded today. This wasnt like the Barrett thing. Im pretty sure if Z went at D-Lee physically, most of the team would have jumped on Zambrano. It's just immature, and is reminiscent of roid raging assholes with predisposed anger issues.

Or maybe he was just pissed that Bigfan told him to buy a shitty car.
