Eric Wedge

Fredi Gonzalez

Pat Listach

Seriously? Why should we want any of these guys???

I want Brenly to be the guy, but if not Brenly then it had better be Sandberg or Girardi.

Wedge is a decent manager. Cleveland was not a great situation in the end because they were payroll dumping.

I think Gonzalez is the best of those 3, but nothing special. Listach?? I know he was manager of the AA West Tennessee Diamondjax team featuring a starting Marmol, Jake Fox at catcher and Eric Patterson at 2nd. Above him at AAA that year was none other than Mike Quade. This should be an extremely simple decision between Brenly and Sandberg (or keep both with sandberg as bench coach) and they are going to completely screw it up by holding out for a guy who is going to re-sign with the Yankees.

Mike Quade.

Name another manager with an underrated record.

Where are you getting this list of candidates?

Prior managerial experience. Some good success in the minors. Time spent as a first/third base coach in the bigs. Lead the Marlins to back to back winning seasons while having one of the lowest payrolls in the league (maybe the lowest). The way he stood up to Hanley this year when he was dogging it during games...not a doubt in my mind the lazy shit going on with ARam would not happen under his watch.

I'll hold out for Girardi. When he has a sit down interview on ESPN saying he'll keep his talents in the Bronx, I could be interested in Fast Freddi.

RFDC,
I AGREE! I AGREE!
Except, to be fair,I would not mind if Mike Quade was considered.
A few other names:
Jim Tracy: Also a former Cub
What about Dave Duncan? Nobody ever mentions this guy,but he has turned out quite a few no-name pitchers into servicable parts or better.

I still think it's going to be Sandberg but they should interview Davey Martinez too.

At this point....does it really make a fucking difference who they hire? They've gone for the big names the last two hires, so who gives a shit if Sandberg has no big league experience. I really don't care at this point. I'm sure Hendry will hire the wrong guy anyway. As long as that douchebag is still making the call, I don't have a lot of confidence anyway.

No doubt about it, when the next guy makes his first mistake or submits a bad lineup he will be the wrong guy.

Multiple issues here. It does matter who they hire. I refuse to think that anyone will be destroyed in that park like a newly married girl going through HR at Free Ajent's office. Do I think Hendry can make the right selection? Possibly. But his track record says he would have to be lucky, as opposed to good.

That's what worries me. Byrd and Lilly were good signings. Lee and Ramirez were salary dumps. Hendry has pretty much sucked after that. Sorry, just can't get excited with that asswipe making the calls.

Well Hendry's track record in terms of managerial hires and trade has been pretty good. The vast majority of Cubs fans were excited about both the Dusty and Lou hire. Can't blame Hendry at all for them going stupid once they get here.

Jesus fucking christ Hendry. Now you don't want an "old" manager. What constitutes old for him? Sandberg will be 51 going into next season and Brenly will be 57. There should be a general manager search before a manager search.

Sun Times reporting Gonzalez at the top of Hendry's list

Somehow need to sell him on Chicago instead of the Atlanta job

Hendry should not be handling this search. We should have a new GM - why saddle him with someone else's manager?

If Sandberg doesn't get the Cubs Manager job, I want to see him at Clark & Addison with both middle fingers in the air & wearing a shirt that says "Ricketts sucks" on the front & "Hendry blows" on the back. Then Larusso (1$ to Jimmy Piersall) leaves the Cards & Ryno replaces him.
Ryno has done everything that the Cubs have asked him to do for the last 3 years.
Rickets is out of his fucking league. How stupid can he be to actually let Hendry remain employed & to conduct the Manager search? I really wish that the Cubs would stop emulating the Bears business model.
