Did anyone else just hear this rumor on the update? Not sure how I feel about this if it is true.

Make it happen.

A bad player that plays 1 out of 5 days > A bad player that plays everyday

Depends on how the money all works out. Kosuke isn't a bad player. Dice K is a 4-5 starter right now. He's on a 6 year 52 million contract and signed through 2012 so roughly 17m. while Fukudome signed 4/48 through 2011 so he's only owed 12.

If Boston would eat that difference, sure.

You put quotes around it because you're sexist.

Dice K has had success that Kosuke never had

Obviously you are forgetting that Koskue was an ALL STAR.....perhaps the greatest right fielder in Cubs history as well.

Granted, but not enough for the Cubs to consider taking on any more money. Dice K's best year he still had a 1.32 WHIP so not like he was unbelievable.

i'd do it. daisuke won't have another year where he was... what, 18-3 or 20-5 or something with a sub-3 ERA... and be it injuries and/or the league catching up with him, he's never approached anywhere close to those numbers since... kok-suk fuk-u-do-me is completely useless on this cubs team. sure he plays a solid RF, sure he takes walks and is capable of starting off hot hitting .300 and getting some waiver wire love in fantasy leagues for a couple'a weeks... but really, this team is facing a 3-4 year rebuilding era with the way things are (and likely a few years longer with the literally-withering jim hendry still captaining the ship)

wtf do you need him for? he's not in your long or even middle range plans... he might hit .280 take some walks with disappointing power #s (relative to his salary) and he's taking away at-bats from tyler colvin and/or whoever else the mighty mighty coo have coming up the pipeline.

with daisuke, odds are you get some finely marinated suck, however, if he/the-team catches lightning in a bottle and makes an improbable run at a weak-to-mediocre division, you'll get far more out of a resurgent daisuke than a never-surgent kosuke.

DO IT!

If they absorb a decent portion of his contract then I am good with it. It fills a spot in the rotation and it frees up some much needed space in the OF.

One big reason not to do it? Kosuke is off the books after 2011. Dice-K has one more year at $10M.

Trading one overpaid/underacheiving player for another. The benefit comes from opening up right field for Tyler Colvin.

Why don't they just write him off? All these teams, they write off everything.

Drive him to Detroit in the back of a postal van, and you can cash him in for 5 cents per strikeout.

At five cents a bottle and five cents a can, we're taking home five hundred dollars a man!
