Don't hate on Jorge Cantu. I have high hopes for him. When he is on he can rake and he can play 3rd when aram blows up.

jorge cantu is my personal baseball jesus, stemming from two seasons ago when he started off hot and gave me production at a position where i thought i had a hole. much like this year, he prodigiously fell the fuck off. cantu was an invisible man in texas of all places, where they ended up using mitch moreland.

still tho, i'd take a flyer on the guy if you can't land carlos pena. lance berkman doesn't excite me a'tall... and does the cardinals signing lance berkman mean pujols is going back to third? what are you going to do with david freese? wtf? that move makes no sense to me.

edit: oh wait, berkman used to be an outfielder, right? shit i think i remember him playing center field and having adventures running up that mini-golf hill in the back of centerfield... so does this mean fat elvis is going back to the outfield? yikes. i didn't know the cardinals were that hard up for offense, especially when they added such a high character guy in theriot.

Agreed. He's old, hurt and kind of bad now. After being traded to the Yankees last year in 106 AB's he hit 1 home run and a .707ops.

Berkman is a couple years old and more hurt I think. Pena's power numbers are still pretty good as well. I'd also be willing to bet Lance took slightly less money to play on a team that could contend at this point in his career.

I don't get the uproar over this signing. People just like to bitch. It's a one year deal and we'll get decent production there. 10mil is about market value for any of these 1B out there currently.

I guess we need to see what Derrek Lee, Konerko etc gets to really determine how his 10m stacks up. Compared to Berkman, I'm actually okay with paying him a bit more.

Konerko is supposedly asking for 15 and 3 years. No thanks. Who cares about the extra 2 million. Pena is a better defender than Fat Elvis and less of an injury risk. I rather have Pena. Did you see Berkman's numbers down the stretch for the Yankees? Bad.
