Cubs 12-15 (3-7 Last 10) 4th place NL Central
Dodgers 14-15 (5-5 Last 10) 2nd place NL West

Game 1: James Russel LHP 1-3 8.31 ERA vs Clayton Kershaw LHP 2-3 3.52 ERA
Game 2: Dumpster RHP 1-3 9.58 ERA vs Chad Billingsley RHP 2-1 4.46 ERA
Game 3: Zambrano RHP 3-1 4.91 ERA vs Ted Lilly LHP 2-2 4.45 ERA

Cubs are raring to go after Mike Quade's first ever ejection. Ryan Dempster is auditioning for the walking dead. Ted Lilly revenge series. Can Carlos Pena hit a home run this season or does he just have warning track power?

I am getting increasingly concerned that he is not going to be able to pull it together and he will be done as a useful starting pitcher in the major leagues after this year. How many years does he have left on his deal one after this one?

Dempster can be free agent after season

March, 1, 2011 By Bruce Levine

Chicago Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster, who is in the third year of a four-year, $44 million contract, can opt out of his fourth year. Dempster has an option to become a free agent for a brief period of time in October before free agency begins.

Dempster will make $14 million in 2012 if he decides to return to the Cubs.

The veteran right-hander, who will start Opening Day, deferred $3 million in 2010 so the Cubs could use that money to sign free-agent outfielder Marlon Byrd. According to an MLB source, the Cubs decided to pay Dempster back the entire amount during the winter, even though they had a number of years to pay off the deferment.

Think he is going to opt out making 14 million in 2012??   Good call on another player option Hendry

I'm looking forward to seeing Clayton Kershaw tonight!

I am not looking forward to seeing Carlos Zambrano face that lineup again.

It happened too quick for him to just be done. Isn't he supposed to have a year or two where he hangs around a 4.75era and is our 4th/5th starter? He went from a solid #2-3 type to shouldn't even be in baseball. There has to be some sort of injury, life drama, something....

Wasn't he tipping pitches? Maybe that little glove-flippy thing stopped working..

I thought that's why he started doing the flippy thing. Is he flipping differently for different pitches? Someone who is getting paid to watch this team should take a look at that

Not sure if he's injured but he doesn't seem to have found the 'feel' for his pitches. When he's good his splitter and slider dive out of the strike zone. This year they are just hangin in the strike zone and screaming hit me. When he gets the 'feel' for those pitches back he'll be fine. I think this is something he just has to fight through.

Maybe he can pitch batting practice to Colvin and Pena.

Len is dogging Kershaw's beard. By cracky. I would like to see Len's beard. By cracky. If you'll pardon the expression.

I heard Quade say "what are you a fucking machine, fuck", prompting the home plate umpire to get red ass.

Tom Gorzelanny threw 8 shoutout innings tonight to drop his ERA to under 3.00 for the year. Another great move by Jim Hendry. We got 2 minor leaguers.

And we have James Russell, a lefty specialist, getting fucking tatooed again.

The Gorz trade is a head scratcher. They really didn't get anything of substance back. Not much Hendry does makes sense though.

I have been bitching about that trade for months on here.

And rightly so. The guy is a decent 5th starter. I guess Hendry figured having depth in the rotation wasn't needed. What a genius.

Last year, his ERA was decent and SO to IP was very good. Didn't look it up,but that's what I remember. Hendry just keeps making one bad move after another. Russell should be in Grabow's role and that Grabow money could have been used on a 5th starter.

I would like to know exactly why Ramon Ortiz is in the organization? He hasn't been lights out, but he is eating innings and keeping them in games down in AAA. He is the kind of guy you sign for this specific situation.

...however...

...good news...

Doug Davis may be ready for the next time the 5th starter spot comes around in the rotation. :thumleft:

The Grabow contract was especially inexplicable in terms of dollars. No one was predicting he'd get even half of what Hendry shelled out. And now he is a mop up man.
