Maybe the Nats want to bail on this guys huge deal,Soriano's deal is done in 4 years. Meanwhile the Cubs get a guy that could be part of the rebuilding process.

Right now, this sounds a lot like an Adam Dunn article:

The Nationals went 4 for 18 with runners in scoring position in the doubleheader, with Pirates winning the first game 5-3. It was Pittsburgh’s first twinbill in Washington since they split with an early incantation of the National League Senators at Boundary Field on May 19, 1899, and at times the home team’s attack looked 19th Century primitive.

Baring the brunt of it was Werth, the player with the seven-year, $126 million contract who is hitting .165 since June 1 and .224 for the season. Johnson tried batting Werth fifth for the first time this season in Game 2, and it didn’t help.

Strikeout in the fourth. Strikeout in the sixth. Flyout in the eighth with the Nationals trailing and a runner on base. He went 0 for 3 with a walk, doffing his helmet toward the booing fans as he made his way down the dugout steps after his last at-bat.

“Nah, not tonight,” Werth said as reporters approached his locker.

“He’s a great ballplayer, and he’s going to get it going,” Johnson said. “He takes it as hard as anybody around here. He works hard. He’s a gamer. He’s going to be fine. But that’s part of the game. When you’re going good, they cheer you. When you’re not going so good, they boo you.”

Pass. I'll take 3 more years of Soriano vs. 6 more for Werth. Sori will be tradeable in a year or 2 if the Cubs eat 12-14M. He can always DH.

I was surprised the Nats gave him that much money. I never thought he was any big deal. I was also surprised that Mat Stairs was STILL playing 1st base for the Nats. I thought he retired. Yet despite a crummy year from Weurth, they find themselves at 500 (46-46). Something the Cubs can only dream of.

Yes, good drafting by Washington. The Cubs? Hayden Simpson. 1st Round 2010. 1-6 with a 5.72 ERA in fucking A Ball.

And they lost Strasburg. The Cubs lost the immortal Randy Wells for a few weeks and the roof caved in.

Uh, drafting Strasburg and Harper at number 1 - and then Rendon at 6 this year - didn't exactly require a brilliant drafting strategy.

I thought the whole fucking idea...to me anyway....was to try and get out from under these bad contracts / bad players? Now you are suggesting to take a 4 year bad deal & bad player and trade it for a 6 year bad deal & bad player?

What the fuck? With logic like that, you could work for Hendry!

No but drafting players like Danny Espinosa, Ian Desmond, Jordan Zimmermann, Drew Storen and John Lannan did. Rizzo has done an excellent job of drafting and turning that franchise around.
