Not the purple one, but the round one.

Ricketts will need to sign him. Lefty, Power, MVP type.

They need to look at the history of the Cubs and even when things were going bad, they always had a true star, OK, that one year of just gracie is questionable, but he was a huge fan fave. From Dawson, to Sandberg, to Sosa, thats 30 years of stars that brought the people in the doors.

Yes, I know Prince might have some longevity issues and the day he falls off the, that will be it, but this is something that needs to be built into the deal as I will admit it might not be the best baseball deal, it is about selling tickets and it's a problem, looking to be a bigger problem next year.

I'd go 5 years, maybe 6 at 18M.

I'd give him the $20M+ he wants but you still need to put players around them. Considering where the Cubs are it's unlikely Pujols or Fielder would want to come here.

I'm leery of Pujols. Fielder doesn't have to many suitors.

No. Ricketts isn't signing any big money free agents...& I don't think he should either.

Did the horrible Soriono deal teach you anything? The back end of that deal will be as bad or worse. This pile of shit is no quick fix. I am talking this team not Fielder. You must gut this out and rebuild from the core. Gonna take years with the right front office in place. Another 100 with what the Ricketts will do.

And that's why you wouldn't sign him.

Lets say Fielder is good for 2 years and he signs five years for $20M each year. year 3 he is OK and year 4 and 5 you expect him to be a bust. So that's $40 mill, you are dumping. Spread that $40 mill over the first 3 years of the deal. $13.333 M. Does his presence and HR performances, personality, etc get you an extra 300,000 fans? if so, then it is a good deal.

I have stated it's not a GREAT BASEBALL Deal and I understand the backside of this, but this organization will need some power, something for the fans next year and this is it.

Part of this problem is that Ricketts is digging the deepest hole possible with this 2-4 year evaluation period. Because when he finally makes a change everyone will ask him what the fuck he was talking about for all that time?

He's going to demand nearly double what cpguy is offering.

He can demand all he wants. I have a feeling $80 over 4 years is better than sitting home eating vegan burgers.

DH's don't get that money and then you have to find another team ready to give him big money at 1B? Just think all teams have some hinderance to doing this deal. Texas best bet?>

Minn? Maybe, but not going to
Texas?
LA? Needed but no way
NYM? Needed but no way, unless finances get in order quick
St Louis? If Pujols leaves?
Colorado?

Why do you say that? He's averaged 159-160 games over the past 6 year, and I believe he's played in every game this year so far.

I assume he's referring to Fielder's size. Big dudes tend not to age well. But you're right, he's been incredibly healthy so far.

Soriano was also healthy until coming to the Cubs. At least we know how old Fielder is though.

Someday our Prince will come
Someday they'll pay his sum
And how happy the ballhawks will be
When balls come flying out of Wrigley

Someday when spring is here
Prince will be here for us to cheer
And Go Cubs Go we'll sing
When the Cubs finally get their rings.

Yes I do need help.
