Word on the street is they are willing to eat a majority of his contract if someone will take him. That would be excellent.

The problem is that he can't field, he can't run, and he can't hit (OPS of .746 and dropping). Doesn't seem to be much of a market for that type of player, even when the price is free. He is completely worthless. Easily the worst Cubs contract ever.

They'd be lucky to find anyone willing to pay even 5M of the remaining 60M through 2014.

He could always be Barry Zito. At least Hendry wasn't successful in acquiring him.

If thats all someone would pick up, it might well not be worth trading him. I said clearly before the Cubs signed him that I did not want him and I have been outspoken in my criticism of Soriano. However, if you have to deal with things from this point forward, it should be determined what a BETTER player is going to cost. If the money saved per season will not be enough to get a better player for that money, it might be best to keep him. There are not a great deal of credible outfielders available in the upcoming free agent period and of those, how many do you really want. Soriano is awful in the field-worst of all is the lack of hustle after balls that get past him and go to the wall. He sets a poor example for young players too with his refusal to move runners along in critical situations and instead swinging for the fences. He's a poor base-runner and.....oh shit, just dump him

i was dead set against Soriano from Day 1 as well...mainly because I knew it was the end of Murton's Cub career...but also because I knew we overpaid for a guy that wasnt ever really a winner

it was the start of several bombastically Bully moves that smacked of Hendry trying to get attention and trying make the Cubs organization look beefy :eye:

If you get anything for him I think you gotta take it.
But he is better than Adam Dunn....

As bad of a deal as Dunn's deal is right now, the Cubs still owe more on Soriano!

As bad as he has been (at last check the WORST hitter in MLB) I would wager that for the duration of Donkey's contract, which I believe has 3 more years to run after this one-- Dunn will outperform Soriano. Admittedly, both look like horrible paper at this point, but the Adolfo contract is monumentally horrific.

What would you put the price at? Yes, he is declining, but he does have MLB experience. If you are paying 5M through 2014, that is less than 2M a year after the rest of this year is done. Probably not that awful, but also not that attractive. Eh, I already talked myself out of it.

I would sell his contract the Ham Fighters or someone else in Japan. They would love him over there. He would hit the shit out of the ball too as bad AAAA players go there and rake. He is a weird enough dude to buy into that too and probably love life while there.

Whoa. What? Did you hear this somewhere? I'm sure SR would pay some of the deal to get him out of New York.

Soriano's month of July has been spectacular. An OPS of .393 (!!!), 2 walks, 2 extra base hits (2 doubles), 1 run scored. His numbers for July are actually worse than Dunn's, if you can believe it.

He's played in Japan before. I think he even speaks some Japanese.

Soriano for Matt Murton & Micah Hoffpaur

Make it happen!

I was comparing their OPS...but I guess it doesn't really matter -- they both blow.
