Remember when Dave Dombrowski was everyones GM darling. I would still take him. We have our own Stat Geek boy in house right now, who has made some interesting early moves that Hendry fought against, like wanting to trade Zambrano 2 years ago to the Yankees because he predicted a big drop off in velocity. Ari Kaplan is the state geek, we have him.

Now need a veteran GM that embraces the stat geek and is not all about being buddies first and GM second.

That would be just alright with me. As stated in the other thread everyone else commented in.

Edit: That was Theo only.

Greg Maddux.

What is going on with him? Haven't heard much about him since he was hired as a Cubs front office assistant almost 2 years ago now. He is still around I guess...what involvement should he have going forward?

pitching coach..get him out of that desk job and on the field where he belongs

According to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun:

It seems likely that Epstein stays in Boston, but he may flirt with the Chicago Cubs, who would love to make a splash for the high-profile job.

If that doesn’t happen, the Cubs likely will turn their attention to a first-time GM. According to an industry source, the Cubs’ short list includes Epstein’s protégé, Boston senior VP Ben Cherington, Chicago White Sox assistant GM Rick Hahn and Atlanta’s pro scouting director John Coppolella.
