The Chicago Cubs made the second leg of their expected front office revamping official Wednesday night, announcing that San Diego Padres general manager Jed Hoyer would come to Wrigley as new baseball chief Theo Epstein's No. 2 man.

Hoyer will become executive vice president/general manager and his assistant GM in San Diego, Jason McLeod, will come to Chicago with him

as senior vice president of scouting and player development. Both worked with Epstein, the newly appointed president of baseball operations, in Boston.

Josh Byrnes, former Arizona GM and currently senior VP for baseball operations in San Diego, will succeed Hoyer as Padres' general manager, the joint statement by the Cubs and Padres said. San Diego will receive a player to be named later as compensation for the two executives.

The moves have been anticipated all week, but weren't announced in deference to the World Series. With Wednesday's rainout, the teams made the announcements and said they would hold press conferences regarding the appointments after the Series.

I like the Hoyer move better than the Theo move and if I had to choose one or the other I'd take Hoyer.

So is Danny B. going to have to clear some stomach space to slurp some more "Big.Boy.Baseball." man sauce?

McLeod may end up being the most important one of the group.

You both are a couple days late of me making those statements.

Cubs front office now leads the league in odd first names with Crane, Theo, and Jed.
