I too had an "Early Bird" membership card. I even brought it to the Score's 10th anniversary party and Shaer was there. I showed him the card, which gave him a chuckle, he then autographed it for me. I didn't really want an autograph and didn't ask him to sign it, but he took it upon himself to do that anyway. But I certainly did contribute to his 24 second shot clock and schmooze patrol segments, amonst others.

Elmhurst_Steve,
So what was your opinion of him? I didn't think he was that bad.
BUT after reading some stuff on this board,I guess he was a MAJOR PUD!

I thought he was okay-Decent. I liked North and Jiggets best and Mac with either Hanley or Boers (they alternated back then) better, but back in the early days of the Score, I listened pretty much all day. Except when the Cubs games were on the radio, mine was tuned to 820, 1160 and then finally 670. I remember how frustrating it was, when they had to sign off at sunset all those years too. God, that's funny looking back at that now. I used to call into all of the shows then too. They were glad to get the calls too. Now, they run 3-4 times the commercials and some of the hosts are much less interactive (on both the Score and ESPN-especially Carmen on AM 1000-he definitely does not care to take a lot of calls). Guys like Patio Steve and Wild Bill, got to be very well known and when you heard that one was on the line, you knew who they were and you looked forward to hearing what they had to contribute. The landscape has changed somewhat. Tom was very good to me, as a caller and was very nice towards me when I saw him in person. But I got the impression that he was a me-first kind of guy, who overestimated his value as a broadcaster. he should have never left the Score when he did. He had an offer to stay with the station and turned it down, because it was for less than what North and Jiggets were getting. I guess he thought he was as valuable as they were-which was not accurate. But I would still rather listen to Tom, than some of the shows that are on today.

I wish I had known that all it took was to offer a girl exclusive use of a gently used Lexus.
