From the Sun Times:

The biggest name involved is former All-Star Bill Buckner, who has agreed to rejoin the organization as a hitting instructor for Class A Boise (Idaho), where he lives.

A Cubs source confirmed the hiring of Buckner, who was briefly linked to coaching vacancies on Bobby Valentine’s staff in Boston and last coached in the big leagues with the White Sox in 1996 and ’97.

Buckner managed the independent Brockton (Mass.) Rox last season.

The Cubs announced all their minor-league managing, coaching and roving staff Wednesday, leaving only Buckner’s slot with a ‘‘TBD.’’

For those of you to young to remember Buckner with the Cubs, this guy could hit, especially in the clutch. A gritty, hard nosed professional hitter and player, Buckner had one helluva career outside of the Boston error. Look at his stats, over 2700 hits and virtually impossible to strikeout, one can only wonder how much better he'd have been on two good legs.

Good to see Buck back with the Cubs organization!

Great hire Theo.

What is being missed though is the thrilling news that this guy is returning to the Rookie League Mesa Cubs for his 2nd season as hitting coach.

I saw that. Had some damn good homer totals in the minors. Would have liked to see him get more of a chance in MLB.

Recall being at Wrigley in '05 for a Cubs-Sox game, Dubois hit a 3-run opposite field home run and the Cubs won 3-1 behind Prior.

That is all I remember from the 2005 Cubs.
