Listen,I fully understand going young and I'm all for it in 2013.
This division sucks and maybe a couple of key free agent
signings can make the Cubs a contender THIS year. Theo
can still have his youngsters but a couple of veteran bats
wouldn't hurt. That Ian guy at 3RD scares me. No proven
thumper at 1st. Byrd is the new "Jaques Jones" with his GB
singles dominating his hitting stats. The kid at 2nd is Theriot
all over again. Cubs need SLG % guys.

Rip it all apart...sure,until we see this team heading for 97 losses!

No. There isn't a couple of anything that can save this team, unless it's drug dealers. Blow this team fucking up!

The only thing the Cubs need to compete for this upcoming season is a higher draft slot.

The Cubs aren't trying to compete (though they say they are in the press). They are trying to cut payroll and all the crappy players attached to them while attempting to get 1 or 2 players back who actually evolve into everyday players.

The "rebuilding" will not actually start until all of the fat is gone. As long as you see Soriano on the roster, they do not feel they can win and will not try to sign big name free agents to do so. They will sign prospects and trade for maybe-type busts that could turn it around until that time.

I like the first base plan. LaHair is getting the start. He earned it. Let's see what he can do. If not Rizzo get his shot for the second half of the season. Rizzo has the Theo/Hoyer prints all over him. He is an excellent test to see if these guys really know their shit.

They drafted him in Boston, Hoyer then traded him for Adrian Gonzales.

Then traded for him here.

They are in DEEP with this guy! It is one of the best ways to judge a GM! You follow a guy for 5-7 years and do everything you can to acquire him, he better be good....know what I mean Brian Anderson (Tucson HS, U of A, 1st round Pick, total bust out...after following him for 7 years!)

Anyone on that roster other than Jackson, Castro and Rizzo will probably be traded if they play well enough to be in any kind of demand. I am excited for the long term rebuild.

Same here. There seems to be a plan that doesn't involve wasting money on overpriced veterans.

Ideally, Lahair shows power 25+ HR and they move him to LF in the second half and Rizzo excels at first and they both get in the lineup.

Jimmy loves to stir the pot, nothing wrong with that.

I would have normally said you need to give these guys more time, but the Rizzo trade is the same as a guy they have been developing for years.

You traded a No. 1 pick for the guy, it's a huge strike against them if this guy doesn't show anything this year,

I think that trade will still go down but the Tigers want to make sure they don't fall apart early in the season. If they are kicking ass and in first around the break then that deal will probably happen around the deadline.

So there is a story out about how the Yankees are trying to dump Burnett off to anyone who will take him so they can free up some money and get a DH. The dream trade of him for Soriano needs to happen. Burnett is owed 33 mil over 2 years and Soriano 56 over 3. If Theo could somehow get the Yankees to agree to split the remaining difference between the 2 contracts it would be a huge win for the Cubs and Soriano will probably do alright DHing on a stage he has proven to be comfortable in. So it would be a player for player trade with the Cubs throwing in 12 or so mil. I love that. Make it happen. Also...Burnett probably won't be god awful once he is out of the anxiety inducing microscope that comes with being a Yankee. Hell.....I would do the trade and just give them the entire difference if need be.

Yeah, I think the Cubs would have to pick up the extra year. I wouldn't be opposed to it, though. I would rather have an overpaid pitcher than an overpaid OF at this point.

They are paying that money regardless and Soriano will be blocking someones spot in the OF by that 3rd year anyway. Burnett would give you innings and he isn't blocking anyone's path. If he pitches well then you can flip him next year at the deadline for a few prospects. While I don't think he is a bad guy he is known as a late night party boy and he influences Castro. He can handle that lifestyle but that doesn't mean Castro can.

I'd do that deal in a heartbeat. Not sure if Girardi would have any interest in that.
