ive always thought lannan was an under-rated lefty on a terrible team. not spectacular, but can be effective. he pitches to contact, he doesnt ever strike too many guys out. hes still pretty young too, the cubs could use a lefty starter.

Marlon Byrd for 27 year old lefty starter who averages 200 innings and a 4.00 ERA?

Yeah, I think I might like that

They absolutely need to trade Byrd but I don't think Lannan is the type of pitcher they should target. He's making $5 this year, he's arb eligible again next year then he's a free agent after the '13 season. The Cubs should be looking to acquire young ptchers with strong arms and higher ceilings. They have acquired enough soft tossers in Wood, Maholm and Volsted they don't need another who they will only control for 2 expensive years.

This was my thought yesterday. It sounded like it made some sense, but the numbers don't add up.

It was low hanging fruit. I feel bad now.
